The challenge facing the church is that spiritual formation and direction by both laity and clergy seem to have been lost or forgotten in most parishes.  This project researches spirituality from a biblical and theological point of view, noting various passages and writings that underscore humanity's restless search for meaning in life. The descriptions of the spiritual life in scripture provide a measuring stick for spiritual growth assessment. This research included a survey tool which allowed college alumni to rate their spiritual progress in thirty key areas. This tool also solicited feedback on the effectiveness of college programs and personnel towards the students' perceived spiritual formation. On average, the alumni reported spiritual growth in twenty-nine areas. Therefore, it is critical in faith development to create congregational environments that encourage and facilitate choice-making for faith.  One necessary response is to enhance the kinds and frequency of connecting experiences in congregations to provide general encouragement.  The second response is to provide specific reflective learning experiences to help individuals clarify new goals for faith development as well as foster strong personal agency beliefs that these goals are achievable. The study included the development of a spiritual formation curriculum that had three main components:  (1) A theological and historical overview of spiritual formation;  (2) The use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator  to help students discover how their natural dispositions influence their spiritual pilgrimage; (3) The establishment of weekly accountability groups. The research design involved the administering of the Personal Questionnaire and the Spiritual Life Inventory for gaining quantitative data before and after the class.  I also maintained a daily journal of class sessions and instructor-student accountability sessions. This journal documented lecture topics, class discussions, and personal issues influencing students' spiritual pilgrimages. This data was used to provide descriptive information.  The major implication of this research is that students can benefit from participation in a spiritual formation curriculum offering. In order to do this, the project director researched sermons and created a sermon model. The project directory created eight part model sermons to his congregation during Sunday worship. A group of experts assessed the model sermons and their assessments were used to determine the sermons’ effect and reach. From the research and assessments the project director was able to find the key factors of sermon skills and made a plan to improve sermon skills. He also looked at the before and after of the congregation’s spiritual awareness to find changes and made that the focus of his results. The project looks carefully at the mainline and subculture socio-demographics of Pasco County, mapping the possible Third-Place encounter points and assigning them to districts. By hermeneutically creating cultural narratives of each district, churches can train personnel cross-culturally to enter these Third-Place setting with gospel fluency contextualized to a culture or subculture. The major theme running through this portfolio is hearing God, which played key roles in researcher's spiritual formation and was viewed as a crucial factor in the model designed to help the spiritual formation of CICs. The project showed that most participants expressed their experience of hearing God during lectio divina, and some vowed to change their behaviour. This praxis provided times of corporate worship guided by the Psalms, as well as teaching and devotional writing from the Psalms, presented in such a way to foster greater understanding of the Psalter and facilitate psalm-based prayer.
