Particular activities characterize the faithful but the activities themselves are inadequate to define the faithful. It is faith, love, humility, and obedience from their hearts, which give vitality to the individuals and define true spirituality. This thesis pursues the relationship between love, faith, humility, and obedience. Then the exercise of these qualities in the outworking of theology through devotion to scriptures, fellowship, communion, and prayer is examined. It states that true brokenness is primarily about admitting the foolish directions of our hearts, often shaped by our wounded past. An exploration of Scripture and literature formed a context for the research, conducted as a semi-structured interview. It consists of interviews and follow-up conversations with people who are lay leaders in their respective church communities. All Christians are required to grow spiritually. In both Testaments, God revealed himself as a holy God, and commands that all his children be holy. Books and even courses on spiritual formation cannot, in and of themselves, produce spiritual transformation in believers' lives. Only the Holy Spirit can form and shape them into the image of Christ. With that in mind, the present project entailed the development of a course on spiritual formation at Faculté de Théologie Evangélique de l'Alliance Chrétienne (FATEAC). In my project I shut off the television for two months in order to gain more margin in time to impact these vital relationships. I recorded my findings in three separate journals. While my motives and priorities were the driving force behind my time use and impacted my relationships more than anything else, having the television off created the margin in time to search out the core motives that drive busyness. The method of study was qualitative, using a small group structure of four pastors in the United Methodist tradition.  It applied the use of interview, journal, and questionnaire.  The results showed a marked improvement in the perceived awareness of one's felt presence with God.  It resulted in stated improved spiritual renewal by the pastors and in improved proclamation of the
