The author created and tested four sessions of an arts and theology resource with an older adult ministry in a local church. The sessions centered on art, poetry, games, and drama and concluded with evaluative surveys from participants. Additionally, three participants completed an arts interview and the Daily Spiritual Experiences Scale. The scriptural pattern for this process is seen in the metaphor of God's breath, which repeatedly 'inspires' creation with new life. In order to explore this phenomenon, the author built an arts ministry within a local church with three branches: an art gallery with 3-5 exhibitions per year, a program of arts education with 3-5 offerings per year, and a regular practice of including the arts in worship in a variety of settings. The author formed a group and practiced a 'mindfulness spirituality practice model' as a spiritual discipline. It was a model for healing and caring for depressed Christians. The author selected six participants who were struggling with depression, and this small group met for eight weeks. The participants showed positive changes with respect to their depressed feelings and anxiety. This Pentecostal church is primarily composed of immigrants mostly from Africa and the Caribbean Islands. After struggling to establish a small group ministry, the congregation and leaddership were consulted through conversations, interviews and surveys resulting in a more flexible, focused, and situation-sensitive model. The purpose of this small group ministry is to build a community of disciples nurtured by Bible study and prayer, connected with the church through their leaders, who minister to the needs of those within and beyond the group. Pretest assessments, using surveys, questionnaires, and interviews, of leaders from a diverse background of denominations, showed deficits in areas due to a lack of effective self-care. The primary intervention for this study was a workshop entitled, 'Walking in My Destiny with Effective Self-Care.' The workshop taught how to use the biblical notions of Sabbath and Sabbatical to improve self-care. I asked the participants to take a sixty day challenge by keeping a regular Sabbath rest each week. The Sabbath rest can help prevent burnout and lead to a stronger faith in God. I used the case study methodology by conducting research through an open-ended questionnaire and a survey.
