The purpose concerned understanding the state of spiritual formation practices among the missionaries as well as discerning the measure of influence they exert on the three aforementioned dimensions of missionary life. The project utilized the Spiritual Well Being Scale developed by Ellison and Paloutzian and a researcher-designed instrument to gather the information for statistical analysis and correlations. The results indicated that the practice of regular spiritual disciplines definitely influence spiritual well-being within the population of missionaries of Greater Europe Mission. However, with regard to perceived ministry effectiveness and retention, the results were mixed and only a weak relationship was indicated, which was insufficient to meet the criteria of this study for a valid correlation. The research director researched the field of elder care and identified the best practices and developed materials to assist in the training of the selected participants. The director then used these materials to develop a four-session workshop whose subjects included: 'What is a caregiver?,' 'Suddenly you are a caregiver,' 'Encouraging spiritual growth,' and 'Creating a care plan.' This is seen through a critical analysis of passages in the books of Ezra and Nehemiah that demonstrate Ezra's practice of the discipline. Chapter 1 gives an introduction with the thesis, methodology, criteria for passage selection, deliminations, obstacles, goal, application to ministry, and theological considerations. Chapter 2 demonstrates and defends the thesis through a biblical critical analysis and theological study demonstrating the spiritual disciplines proposed and states a conclusion. Chapter 3 presents future plans of how these spiritual disciplines can be adapted for specific continued ministry. To this end, a variety of prayer styles were compared. Years of personal experience were drawn on to formulate a series of teaching sessions presented at a small local church. The author's research revealed the biblical basis for prayer as the cornerstone of Christian discipline. It was also shown historically how a style of approach to prayer can set the tone for a whole movement within the church. Examples from the historical Korean prayer movement were drawn on frequently. The author examined and practiced the various prayer styles with her church members and defined both vocal and meditative prayer as major categories, each containing many distinct practices. Some members take the 'traditional' approach, seeking God's individual will in their lives. Others take the 'way of wisdom', seeking wise decisions in their choices. Blending the two approaches has led to difficulties at Grace. In this paper, the author contends that the 'way of wisdom' best reflects a biblical model of decision-making. He designed this dissertation to explore the impact of a traditional view upon many of the church's members.
