How can communities of faith offer sanctuary to those yearning for it? Learning from monastic communities that help connect individual lives with the Divine by keeping the seven hours, and mingling work and prayer, this project explored the possibility that a modern, accessible retreat could help participants reconnect body, mind, and spirit. In a one-day retreat in an Anglican Cathedral setting, 42 participants, ranging in age from 7 to 86, loosely kept the seven hours and engaged in creative activities: self-directed art projects, needlework, labyrinth walking, illuminating letters, baking, gardening and making rosaries. Participants rated their levels of peacefulness upon arrival and departure, and explored the areas where they had experienced stress during the day, and what they felt led them to a deeper peace. Contained encounters with stress helped participants move to deeper levels of internal peacefulness, as did support and feedback provided through the structure and experience of the event. Seasonal one day retreats which mingle prayer, creative activity and silence offered in the intrinsic beauty of our churches can help increase inner peace in ways that spill over into daily lives, and can strengthen the ministries of the churches themselves."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719168366346240,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:45:47.615Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:32:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f1ff7f95-20b7-4514-8101-88ceea0313fc","accessControl_ssim":["889ffd73-ba59-488d-8699-a7194db47c6d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Water to wine: transformation through scriptural reflection"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:32:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:02:27Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3520892e-cca6-41ef-8217-fade20565270"],"hasLease_ssim":["54055d6c-beed-4b03-a1c3-0355f3f792e6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David T Gortner"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John Chip Graves"],"publisher_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary (Alexandria, VA)"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual formation","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many Christians do not recognize that God is working in their lives. Growth in people's engagement and understanding of Anglican spirituality can transform their lives, and those of others, empowering all to be witnesses to the gospel in the world. Using an underlying motif of Jesus' parable of the sower, eleven people were invited into a committed, intentional, creative community. Eleven weeks of catechetical work with participants focused on the liturgical season of Epiphany. Group work included engagement with and theological reflection on scripture readings, preaching, prayers, sacraments, the Book of Common Prayer, and creative worship planning. Intentional approaches like small group teaching, catechesis through worship, Bible studies and educational opportunities can strengthen and support the Christian faith of believers and have a ripple effect in the Church and world."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128416182861824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:59:27.899Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:30:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:36:47Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"eda4fd41-d90e-44b6-b3ba-dd9bbb607fa9","accessControl_ssim":["9016f9fc-c58c-4fbd-9a65-95bea20073d2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Downtime for God: shaping spiritual practices in youth using digital technology"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:30:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:55:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["94a8024d-a2f3-49f8-a262-a10963494280"],"hasLease_ssim":["167c6255-d225-408d-b867-42a9407075e3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Elisabeth M Kimball"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rosemarie L Duncan"],"publisher_tesim":["Virginia Theological Seminary (Alexandria, VA)"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual formation","Youth--Religious life","Church work with youth","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Downtime for God used digital technology to introduce 84 youth (at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, D.C.) to spiritual practices designed to make time to deepen their relationships with God, and enhance their connections with their faith community. Baisas, OFM, as a staring point. He delved deeply into the type of spirituality that they have embraced in living their respective religious vocations in the Philippines. These were then respectfully and critically put into dialogue with the Philippine realities and the Christian tradition on religious life, mysticism, prophecy and contextualization using the insights of Sandra Schneiders, IHM, Aloysisu Pieris, SJ, Stephen Bevans, SVD, and the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines, respectively. The said dialogue used a personally-designed model and method in theological reflection in ministry patterned after those of James Whitehead and Evelyn Eaton Whitehead, as well as that of Bernard Lonergan, SJ. The result is the formation of a description of a contextual mystico-prophetic spirituality as a relevant form of spirituality for religious in the Philippines and an elaboration of some of its characteristic features. Other challenges surfaced in the on-going search for this relevant type of spirituality."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b51273d2-7ff5-4ecb-af24-64508c2367ad"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129146361905152,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:11:04.251Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:24:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:59:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"66b14cf3-6cca-4ee1-b687-21d7968a7cd7","accessControl_ssim":["e6e27f6e-eea4-438a-b7fc-af6a9576a461"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The priesthood of all believers and preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:24:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:07:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["22a72088-4189-4363-8f61-96e8d6e80e1c"],"hasLease_ssim":["7eedd080-efcb-4022-971d-a6d8ed63f73e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Malcolm Yarnell"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David Y Williamson"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Communication--Religious aspects--Christianity","Priesthood, Universal","Theology","Preaching","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author argues that properly applying the doctrine of the priesthood of all believers to preaching provides significant ways in which believers should participate in preaching. The creation story in Genesis bears witness to a sacred rhythm. God worked for six days. God's work was completed on the seventh day when God rested, and blessed and hallowed the day.
