Through a study of Zwingli and Calvin, one can see the interplay between a sovereign God and human responsibility in a individual's spiritual growth. Turretin, Edwards, and Pannenberg demonstrate the inherent fluidity within form intrinsic to Reformed spirituality. Initiating the project was a survey of a congregation's perception of faith.  Results of the survey reflected the need of Baptists to address the place of experience after the 'born again' event, a lack of discipline, and the influence others have on an individual's spiritual growth.  At the end of the project a survey was taken that showed Southern Baptists can develop an understanding of spirituality as journey. Contemporary fasting practices in the Orthodox church are discussed in terms of the social history of Orthodox jurisdictions in the United States and the effects of a number of social factors on pastoral issues in Orthodox spirituality.  The paper also reports an empirical study of the effects of fasting combined with prayer or prayer alone on subjects who were either regular fasters or who did not normally fast. Non-fasters following a regimen of fasting and prayer reported improvements in their general spiritual lives. The first section is biblical theology, a survey of leadership models in the Scripture, with a view to discerning the ways God has used men and women in the biblical history to give leadership to his people.  Implications for the role of the pastor are drawn from these, with the Old Testament 'man of God' and Jesus' 'servant' and 'shepherd' models emerging as formative.
