This project considers whether exploring one's God-designed uniqueness -- including one's personality, intelligences, spiritual type, and spiritual temperament -- can inform personal and corporate spiritual growth. The paper incorporates a qualitative research method to help adherents explore instinctive and counterintuitive approaches -- to affirm one's innate spiritual tendencies and intentionally stretch beyond them. The method of study was qualitative, using a small group structure of four pastors in the United Methodist tradition.  It applied the use of interview, journal, and questionnaire.  The results showed a marked improvement in the perceived awareness of one's felt presence with God. The spirituality of prayer is vital both in an individual life and in the life of a community.  When faced with personal difficulties, family issues, social conflicts, and relationship problems, we pray and ask others to pray for us.  It is natural for us to ask for intercessory prayer when troubles come in our daily lives.  A theology of prayer regards prayer as a key to all these troubles. Congregants of one local historically black church, however, appropriated biblical and African American voices as prototypical sources of 'faith' to guide the church's response to those challenges.
