To address the question, a focus group was engaged to study four disciplines of the faith: meditation, sabbath, commitment, and service, to determine if they would help facilitate a movement toward spiritual wholeness. The findings indicated that there was a lack of awareness of the disciplines, combined with significant life components that vied for their attention. The results indicated that the church bears some fault, but people are making choices to their own spiritual demise."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129216842989568,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:11.468Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:40:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:08:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b774683b-9330-4789-b7bf-ed0505a5c7f7","accessControl_ssim":["7708f588-337b-4471-bd7e-ab62ecbb4212"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Exploring the emotional and spiritual relationship between human beings and their money using a narrative methodology"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:40:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:25:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["69397da1-f164-41e2-a517-91d53011f0cb"],"hasLease_ssim":["17b5b8fb-fd28-42bb-b8e6-2af53e45020f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"advisor_tesim":["Carolyn Pressler"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paula B Nordhem"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual life--Christianity","Money--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project focuses on the emotional and spiritual dynamics of our human relationship with money. The goal of the project is to develop material that can be used in congregations and by individuals for study and reflection on the subject of money in corporate and individual life. The purpose of this project is two-fold. First, to offer research and evaluation for the seminary/academic community on the subject of our internal, personal relationship with money and the human behaviors that result from that relationship. Second, to offer a theological and theoretical framework for every audience by which to approach the various narratives. It is hoped this information will have an underlying usefulness for the church as it articulates faithful responses to such theological issues as stewardship and economic justice. The hope for the work is to help any readers or study group discover ever healthier ways to relate to and use their money as a blessing to themselves and to the wider community in which we all live."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129017778176000,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:09:01.625Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:52:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"96505326-56d4-4a7b-aacd-d8ef9aa7acb4","accessControl_ssim":["1607e760-be1e-484b-8e4a-219b00b1760b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The Sabbath motif as a foundation for web-based renewal for Navy chaplains"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:27:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:31:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9c6938a2-6e8b-4335-b87f-0e7051f7ee1b"],"hasLease_ssim":["d74a7020-095d-4870-9b21-e5e9af13e09b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert J Fitkin"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religion","Military chaplains","Sabbath","Spiritual life--Christianity","World Wide Web","Technology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Web-based Sabbath renewal sought to determine if technology could facilitate ongoing spiritual nurture for Navy chaplains. Online renewal used Sabbath themes to provide web-based content. To facilitate accountability and chaplains' desire for fellowship a 'Sabbath friend' was created. The MBI Human Services Survey instrument determined the success of web-based renewal. Overall, MBI found chaplains decreased their feeling of burnout and increased their feelings of ministry accomplishment. The online Sabbath renewal project was a first step to provide Navy chaplains a viable opportunity to continue their spiritual vitality in arduous duty assignments around the world. The evaluation of the web design was a secondary goal. Using Likert scales, the evaluation measured technical aspects of web-based design such as cognitive load, aesthetics, and navigation. The online renewal site successfully helped chaplains with spiritual renewal/awareness that resulted in greater feelings of accomplishment in ministry. The results of this project also offered hope for the future application of web-based renewal for everyone in the helping profession. In the end, this project accomplished a new method for facilitating the ancient need for spiritual renewal."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131727115059200,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:05.450Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:26:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5225c819-171d-4bac-86dd-b098815c18d1","accessControl_ssim":["14f8dad3-bf82-4380-90fc-9964f6d61030"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["In the steps of Loyola: a Protestant retreat manual"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:26:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:32:22Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b3ba0c9f-02dd-43f9-a77a-93112b076d26"],"hasLease_ssim":["9bd39255-422f-403a-b728-e31f4b8bca4d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Marc T Haynes"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Protestantism","Spiritual retreats","Spiritual exercises","Ignatius, of Loyola, Saint, 1491-1556","Spiritual formation","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["I have been inspired by The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola to create a Protestant, Christ-centered retreat manual. This retreat manual was designed to lead people into a deeper spirituality. The group that tested this out was comprised of volunteers from the church I pastor, the Fulton Alliance Church. The expectation of the retreat manual was to allow the retreatants to grow in the Lord as well as to serve him in the context of the local church. The retreat manual was divided into three sections: salvation, sanctification, and vocation. Section one was designed to give clarity to salvation. Section two was designed to lead to further present sanctification. Section three was designed to assist the retreatants in identifying and applying their unique vocation. Particular attention is given to worldview within the emerging context of postmodernity. Using the Bible as the source of God's revelation of reality, the key worldview questions are asked: Who am I? Where am I? What's wrong? What's the solution? As the narrative of the Bible is used to address these questions, a distinctive Christian worldview emerges. The grand story revealed in the Bible is the unfolding narrative of the kingdom of God. The project compiles information collected from an anonymous survey distributed among local church clergy in the Central Texas Conference. Surveys were collected over a six week period and then the information was tallied over the next three months.
