It can be difficult for a layman to fill the role with confidence and joy. This project was designed to develop and orientation process that is both meaningful and manageable in a layman's life. The research included a survey of pastors in similar churches, a survey of participants before and after the retreat, and a study of literature on church leadership development. A post-test evaluated participant experiences and the impact of seven different components on participant spiritual transformation. Results showed that prominent spiritual transformation occurred on the retreats. Of the seven components assessed, the Rime of Silence with God had the greatest impact. What makes this retreat and The Sourcebook unique is that it integrates the Hindu chakra system and world spiritual traditions. The chakra system is an ancient belief that there are energy centers in the body that govern daily activity.
