Ten husbands of female pastors in the House of God Church were identified to define their role as the 'first gentleman.' The methodology was approached from a pastoral counselor's perspective. Strategies of brief counseling theory (Stone, 2001) were used to develop survey and interview questions for the participants. The author interviewed couples fracing those challenges to gain insights into how families navigate the itinerancy with integrity while honoring the multiple covenants involved. Accordingly, adultery has an internal causation, not an external causation. The dissertation will research the prevalence and scope of pastoral and pastoral spouse sexual misconduct and their acceptance of responsibility. The spiritual relationship with God in an adulterous relationship is examined. The author used a qualitative research method for gathering data. Personal interviews from pastors faced with this dilemma, plus questionnaires and interviews from his family, churches and communities, where he pastored with his disabled wife, played a significant role in his research. As well, an archival research into the effects and challenges facing caregivers and their families added to his insights.
