Scripts designed for minimal staging and preparation invited children and adults from the congregation to step into stories and skits, sometimes with no rehearsal or no warning.  Feedback from pastors and members of the congregations offered an enthusiastic response, with some interesting reservations.  Their comments provide and eloquent discussion of how people understand Sunday morning and how drama and story can animate their church experience. Interviews, sermon analysis and questionnaires were used in seven different congregations at eight preaching events to assess listener response.  For the five preachers in this study, those whose views of the Bible more closely matched their listeners' views used less story, while those whose views vary more from their listeners' views used more story.
