The methodology elucidated by Amedeo Giorgi, primarily by allowing the students' own experiences to explicate the story, made use of an open-ended questionnaire and interviews with 25 percent of the respondents. A community service model was developed to help promote student volunteering, blood drives, and mission by the local church.  A pilot study using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory showed: 1) levels of anxiety decrease following a blood donation, and 2) the number of previous blood donations decreases the levels of anxiety.  An analogy drawn between the blood donor table and the Table of the Lord demonstrated parallels.
