The aim of this study is to show churches can use a mentoring model to help experienced teachers transfer practical knowledge to trainees and multiply available, trained teachers. A secondary aim is to show that the mentoring model matches biblical principles. This study, through an integrative review and critical analysis of literature, explores the biblical, theological foundations of teacher training, surveys the development of teacher training in the church, and based on the Bible and history presents a model for teacher apprenticeship. Through the use of an ethnographic sketch, the author shows how one church transitioned from a Sunday School model resembling traditional schooling to a model that understands Christian education as a process of formation.  The author introduces a teaching manual that draws upon the 'Workshop Rotation Model' for Sunday School.  She sets this model within a theological framework, underscores the importance of developmentally appropriate practice, and identifies practices of the faith inherent in the Workshop Rotation
