A model for a new ministry role, the Sunday School Shepherd, was developed and implemented at First United Methodist Church of Silsbee, Texas. Appropriate training and encouragement were given. Participants in the Shepherd ministry found the training useful and were able to function in valuable ways within their class structures. This project proposes an assimilation plan based on adult Sunday school classes reorganized into life stage communities. These communities will provide a network of care and ministry. Eleven classes were involved. Two of the classes were chosen to pilot the plan. Of the remaining nine classes, six embraced the plan in a limited manner and three resisted change. Chapter 2 briefly introduced two of Jesus' stories in Luke as a biblical storytelling model and surveyed the theological aspects of biblical storytelling. Chapter 3 explained that the human brain has a physiological structure and cognitive characteristics that enable the listener to maintain the essentials of the story for longer periods of time.  Story's role in human history, in both sociological and psychological aspects, was discussed here as well. Training of the Sunday School teachers, grounded on these findings, was described in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 shows how teachers themselves were instructed about the storytelling form as the biblical teaching method of faith. As a writer of the Pentecostal Holiness Sunday school curriculum aimed at Generation X, this writer wanted to develop a program evaluation of this material to determine if it is relevant to Generation Xers. The attitudes of both those within and without the church will be examined after they respond to a survey upon reading two Sunday school lessons. The assumption is that the material will not be as relevant to those outside of the church. The goal of this paper is to discover how to make Sunday school curriculum more interesting and relevant to the lives of Generation Xers. As the Baby Boomers are rapidly aging, it is important to learn how to disciple this particular generation. The message of the gospel must remain constant, but the way of reaching Generation X may prove to be vastly different from formerly successful methods.
