Caring is a challenging task and a very rewarding task. This project produces a comprehensive manual that provides compassionate care to the end of life patients and families of Chinese ethnic origin and Christian faith.  There are different sections for families how to plan for the end of life and take care of their own health. The training further reduced participants' fear of death and increased beneficial styles and types of death acceptance as measured by the Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R). Using resources modeled on palliative care, leaders assist congregants through the stages of merger or closure. Working with terminal patients, the author created exploration sheets to go with each spiritual practice to guide the conversations between the patient and the chaplain in a hospice and palliative care setting. This study explores the importance of symbols expressed in dreams, what may appear as nonsensical spontaneous comments, and uncharacteristic behaviors of patients at the end of life. The workshops are designed to inform and develop skills interpreting symbols to enhanced palliative care. Staff reports indicate the calming benefits that interpreting symbols extend to the dying patient. Several congregational issues exist concerning end of life in the African American community. A variety of methods for approaching case consultations have been primarily physician-focused, leaving the role of the clinical ethicist from the perspective of the family overlooked.  Indicating a gap in the process of end-of-life decision making, family members identified seven categories about their experience of decision making. Even survivors who expected the death suffer and do not know how to deal with it. The death of their loved one demands they deal with the experience of death whether they want to or not. Many Korean-American pastors and congregations would like to comfort them but may not know how. Korean-American survivors may even be ignored by their pastors and churches. As a Korean-American chaplain, even I sometimes feel challenged to know how to care for them. I would like to see Korean-American people cared for by Korean-American congregations. But I also want Korean-Americans to be cared for by other Christians. My purpose in this dissertation is to help improve the way Korean-American pastors and their congregations care for survivors.
