Although the pre- and post-tests were paper and pencil tests, they were designed to test hands-on capabilities in time management, church finances, church business meetings, lay training, and office procedures. The context of the project was a three week clinical course in hospital ministry based on the pastoral counseling theories of Adams, Hiltner, and Clinebell and Carl Rogers' ideas.  The results from the project revealed a bell-shaped pattern of change. This thesis/project is a descriptive study of the premarital counseling practices of a sample of 20 pastors in the Presbytery of Genesee Valley, New York, who were interviewed to ascertain their practices concerning inclusion of discussion of five areas of marital satisfaction which appear to be important for the content of premarital counseling: background information, communications, money, religion, and sexuality.  There is a wide divergence in the premarital counseling practices of pastors.  Some do an excellent job, but the majority of the sample appear to be struggling or frustrated in their practice of premarital counseling. Using a survey of missiological literature, an examination of the christological background and three models of the incarnation developed from Johannine, Pauline and Matthean literature, a concept of incarnational mission is formed and applied to Australia as described in its historical, social and religious setting.
