The study has been especially selected to help pastors/leaders in growing churches and also in counterbalancing an increasingly strong charismatic influence in the Baptist congregations in the Penang area.  This project will be conducted during a time frame of thirty-two hours of seminary-class training for the students of Penang Baptist Seminary and any leaders of Penang-area Baptist congregations who desire to enroll in the class.  The thirty-two hours of class time will be delivered during a two-week period consisting of four hours a day, Tuesday through Friday of each week.  The goals are that not only will the leaders become trained but that they will return to their respective congregations and lead similar classes/seminars. The lay members of the churches, therefore, will be more knowledgeable about these biblical teachings and less vulnerable to false teachings. Proverbs","Theological seminaries","Expository preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A primary premise of the work is that there is currently a severe deficiency in expository preaching in general and preaching from Proverbs specifically. The theological section examines the background of Proverbs and compares it with other wisdom literature of the ancient world. Included is a segment on the unique literary genre of Proverbs. The structure of the book and the theology of wisdom is also analyzed in this chapter. The theoretical chapter investigates the hermeneutical principles particular to Proverbs. Determining paragraphs, using rhetorical analysis, and patterns in wisdom literature is thoroughly discussed. Filtering the selected text through six interpretive principles is key to this section. The chapter concludes by developing a framework for constructing expository sermons. The culmination of theological and theoretical sections is an actual course designed to teach expository preaching from Proverbs. It is intended as a college or seminary elective homiletics course. Included with the lesson plans are 10 sermons on Proverbs for the purpose of classroom instruction and personal study. An action research method was used whereby new course workbooks were written and implemented as the course curriculum. Students were interviewed pre- and post-course and responses compared.
