The hypothesis was that through the design of a new, required course, focused on serving as a 'rite of passage' into seminary, new students could have a more hospitable experience of making the transition into the seminary community. The model used was an education model focused on hospitality as a theological practice. The scope of the dissertation includes an assessment of an evangelical seminary.  The terms evangelical, post-evangelical and spiritual direction are examined in light of current understanding and relevance to an academic institution.  Post-evangelicalism is a response to the current shifts in thinking, particularly that of post-modernism. He bases this assertion on results of interviews conducted in three midwestern seminaries.  He demonstrates that an intercultural approach to seminary formation is consistent with church documents on seminary training, as well as with contemporary theology.  The author explains at length the essential cultural categories necessary for gaining an understanding of cultural difference, which is the key to intercultural communication. It demonstrated a need for training and increased quality of performance in Christian education in Latin America.  Responding to an apparent lack of training, it evaluated and determined curriculum needs for a Master of Arts in Christian Education (MA/CE) degree at CATS.  Needs assessment instruments were used to determine key needs.  These evaluated current practice and identified ways to improve performance effectiveness.  Curriculum for a MA/CE has been recommended to CATS to meet Latin America's need for higher training in this
