Points of emphasis included a rationale for the large percentage of its African American students and the opportunity the DCP-CMN program had to equip alumni to reach the Pittsburgh region's unreached peoples-especially its international students. Interviews described servant-leaders who exemplified the categories found in Jenning's and Stahl-Wert's book, The Serving Leader. The study concluded that, overall, the DCP-CMN program fulfilled Geneva College's Mission Statement. Alongside this growth is also the fast growth of the church in Africa. The growth of cities could be rich fields for harvest for the church if it is able to use this growth as viable field for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Most seminaries in Africa have not yet awaken to the challenge of training pastors who are able to tackle adequately the urban challenges that face the church in Africa today. In order to provide the desired training for pastors who will be able to minister in the city, this project is written with the view to developing an urban ministry curriculum for the Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) Mkar in Nigeria. But scripture calls it 'prayer.' It is the foundation for a believer's spiritual growth, matures through the stages of discipleship, and its role is to align the heart of the believer with God's heart in Christ-like convictions, character, and conduct, daily reaching the goal, 'his heart, my heart.' This thesis/project trains thirty Christian college students with a forty day devotional on devotions using Matthew 6:5-15. Various literatures are reviewed to gain deeper understanding on historical, biblical, missiological, cultural and educational perspectives. This qualitative research is conducted by using a descriptive, inductive research methodology and involved interviews of China Evangelical Seminary missionary alumni. An analysis was done of the practice in Nebraska from 2000 to 2009. The knowledge and skill sets required by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church nationally were also analyzed. The current Nebraska practices and the national sets recommended were compared to best practice as seen in entry level seminary preaching courses. It examines the history of African American clergy leadership education and African American theological reflection that informs such educational programs. Qualitative data gathered from interviews of persons who have participated in African American clergy leadership education programs serve as a measure of program effectiveness by offering crucial information to African American clergy who serve both church and community. Based on the analysis of data through mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative research), the researcher proposed modifying and updating the traditional Japanese seminary curriculum for pastoral ministry. A modified curriculum requires first that seminaries nurture leaders who can lead their churches toward the eschatological vision in Revelation 7:9 as the goal of ministry. The resource was evaluated by advisers in the Doctor of Ministry program.
