Mentoring is highlighted as an alternative method for African Americans to meet field education requirements. Afrocentricity is an ideological foundation for the ministerial preparation of African American seminarians. The Afrocentric Mentoring Program demonstrates a culturally harmonious model of theological field education for African American students. They were asked what they found to be difficult and enriching during internship. Data gained through questionnaires, journal exercises, and interviews provided a narrative and anecdotal commentary of their experiences.  Mutual accountability, ethical responsibility, and the nature of the intern-supervisor relationship surfaced as areas of concern. Using the Delphi technique, ministry professors and practitioners recommended 892 knowledge, attitude, and skill outcomes. These were synthesized to 99 outcome statements that were rank-ordered on a Likert scale resulting in the ten most effective outcomes for each domain. The final round of the Delphi elicited preferred learning experiences and assessment techniques. The author sought to discover whether or not such a ministerial identity appropriation took place; how students recognized such an appropriation; and to what extent the process of theological reflection in the seminar setting was critical to the act of appropriation. The SIM concept indicates that faculty will carry out on-campus academic activities as well as off-campus field work with undergraduate theological students on a weekly basis.  The first part develops a theoretical framework to obtain criteria for the evaluation.  The second part contains the perceptions stated by respondents to a survey on the SIM concept.  Results indicated that the concept is widely accepted. The project was completed in fifteen faculty meetings by following a validation copy of Leroy Ford's A Curriculum Design Manual for Theological Education: a Learning Outcomes Focus.  The manual proceeds from a broad purpose statement through scope, educational goals, educational objectives, context, instructional models, and administrative model to specific course descriptions. Consciousness, theology and behaviour were manifestly altered in each of the four seminarians.
