It considers the impact it has had on the Catholic Church in the United States as a whole as well as some specific generations.Chapter 4 offers an in-depth explanation of the acronym “BREATHE” and how each characteristic of that acronym should inform our preaching. It also loosely corresponds each letter to the seven different stages of growth toward missionary discipleship.Chapter 5 and its subsequent appendices provide the statistical data of one Catholic parish where the acronym was implemented in a five-week preaching exercise to reach the most Catholics possible in that one setting. It then considers the response and how that aligns with the statistical data found in chapter three.Chapter 6 offers conclusions to the thesis overall and a recommendation of how to move forward while acknowledging the limitations of this one exercise and the importance of an overall plan to form and send the average parishioner into the world to bring more souls to Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130131105841152,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:43.377Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:33:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:25:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d7517a74-b8c7-4235-85a6-13af7c3d9019","accessControl_ssim":["29fb38a3-6607-4364-b4f4-800fa85a10e4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Creating a Strategy to Develop Effective Leaders in a Growing Post-Christian Society"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:33:34Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:17:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0a4cfb90-c652-434f-a30d-d51385d79d6c"],"hasLease_ssim":["8489751a-fa3b-4495-82b0-f0009626d207"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gateway Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harry Hahne Th.D.","Julius West","Leroy Gainey Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2020"],"location_tesim":["North America"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Sally Ann Carter"],"keyword_tesim":["Evangelism--Study and Teaching","Evangelism--Strategy","Evangelism"],"subject_tesim":["Theology, Doctrinal","Leadership--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to develop a strategy to develop effective leaders at Calvary Hill Community Church ending its leadership deficit. The desired long-term results of this project are to provide a robust leadership development manual or toolkit that will provide a path that will lead people from being new converts to being mature disciples and ultimately becoming effective leaders who reproduce leaders. It is not appropriate to label Southern Baptists as Calvinists, or Arminians, as historically they fall somewhere between the two persuasions. While there is significant agreement on numerous facets, Baptists vary on elements of soteriology, and thus training lay people to understand these differences will cause less confusion and mitigate unnecessary division. The pastors, mostly from South Africa, participated in a Delphi research process that promoted individual input about each person’s encounter with ATR issues in the first round. This input was reviewed and prioritized by the participants in the second two rounds identifying the five most significant challenges of ATR to their local churches. The study concluded with a roundtable discussion intending to address the influence of ATR and whether a theological statement would be helpful in that endeavor. Because the environment being addressed was a pastors’ conference on exegesis, the goal was to influence the preaching of these pastors in a way that would address the influence of ATR. This final project goal found a low level of support and met with some resistance."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720443134869504,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:06:03.329Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:11:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c9350110-5cac-49d6-8f36-2e3680c96e06","accessControl_ssim":["e667ecdc-4d3d-4981-b1e1-159d5e47e64d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Postmortem Preaching and Primopetrine Polemics"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:11:11Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:54:39Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["861f6ccd-09ef-4a41-831c-d00d23a2c9c0"],"hasLease_ssim":["6d442986-0eba-4d01-b432-e9dc238bc874"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Exegetical Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Chapman, David"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Wooden, Anselm Asaph"],"keyword_tesim":["Evangelism"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Theology, Doctrinal","Bible. A number of theologians, both ancient and recent, have suggested that these will have an opportunity to hear the Gospel after they die and that those who repent and trust in Christ for salvation in response to this message will be saved. In support of this view, proponents have put forward several Bible passages, but the case depends on the interpretation of 1 Peter 3:19 and 4:6. On close examination of these verses within their cultural and literary context, neither of them supports the view which has been alternatively been called “postmortem evangelism,” “future probation,” or “divine perseverance.” Since the Biblical case for this view depends on 1 Peter, it seems that there is no Scriptural warrant for it. Since there is no Scriptural warrant for it, Christians ought not to teach such a view."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://covenantlibrary.org/etd/2019/Wooden_Anselm_MAET_2019.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131448872271872,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:47:40.097Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:10:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:29Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"94e4e63f-5730-4d72-a250-5630acbd0df0","accessControl_ssim":["923cac3c-929a-4939-a8f0-1118c8092f9e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["What Does the Bread of Life Discourse Reveal about the Benefits Communicated to the Believer in the Lord's Supper?"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:10:41Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:29:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["97dad858-dc63-41de-ba13-0f5d9ac7e549"],"hasLease_ssim":["6c1a76fb-752b-4b08-a739-4124933bc593"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Exegetical Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Brad Matthews"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Milgate, Andrea"],"subject_tesim":["Bible. Though many theologians have addressed this question throughout history, there remains a greater need to engage this question from the standpoint of the Bread of Life Discourse. With the intention of answering this question solely through Scriptural exegesis, the author chose to conduct an exegetical study of the Discourse as it is recorded in John 6:22-59. After examining the structure and historical context of the passage, she deemed it necessary to address whether the Discourse and the sacrament were related, and if so, the nature of that relationship. Through linguistic, structural, and historical considerations of John 6:22-59, she concluded that the passage at hand is indirectly related to the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The Discourse and sacrament share key Christological teachings. The scope of this project yielded a list of the various gifts Christ gives to the one who “comes and believes,” or “partakes” of him, as well as a description of each. This study is a valuable resource for the Church as it provides a deeper understanding of the spiritual realities surrounding the Lord’s Supper. The Supper is a binding, covenantal act believers perform, in which they receive visible, tangible signs and seals of Christ’s benefits given to them."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["http://covenantlibrary.org/etd/2019/Milgate_Andrea_MAET_2019.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131189525872640,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:43:32.765Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:10:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"943c157a-41de-4ed8-b196-2e55171c03a4","accessControl_ssim":["1c40e61d-9cc7-48d9-bbe1-c341e8cc40f1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Leviticus 18:5 in Galatians 3:12"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:10:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:28:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ce4f571f-f483-402d-9466-cbe4638c11dc"],"hasLease_ssim":["08db9fcf-f14e-4b48-bcc5-9bbc1651f76e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Theology"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["C John Collins Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2018"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Aoyagi, Seima"],"keyword_tesim":["Pauline theology"],"subject_tesim":["Bible. This sensitive difference that LXX makes suggests that Lev 18:5 should better be translated as “shall live in them (~h,B'),” which makes the relationship between life and law as consequential, rather than causal. While a causal relationship makes obedience to the law based on cause and merit in order to gain life, this consecutive relationship makes life a natural consequence of the obedience. Both could be said as “conditional,” but it is not a meritorious condition, rather, it is a consecutive condition. I will also point out that Paul respects the non-meritorious significance of evn no,mw","In Galatians 3:12, Paul says “The law is not of faith, rather, the one who does them shall live by them” citing Leviticus 18:5. At first glance, Gal 3:12 seems to present Paul’s blunt statement rejecting the law and Lev 18:5 seems to be cited to prove that the law is in opposition to faith. This impression is enhanced by noticing that Lev 18:5 is put antithetically to Habakkuk 2:4, which is also cited in Gal 3:11. Because Hab 2:4 is promoting justification by faith, putting Lev 18:5 in opposition seems to suggest that Lev 18:5 advocates meritorious works-righteousness. Because both Lev 18:5 and Hab 2:4 are from the OT, it seems odd for Paul to treat one OT passage as promoting a good theology and the other as promoting bad theology. These difficulties become more obvious when we notice that Lev 18:5 in its original context never promotes meritorious works-righteousness. Instead, Lev 18:5 encourages God’s people toward righteous living as a proper response for God’s chosen people. This verse is an encouragement for Israel to walk in the law instead of pagan teachings because only the Lord’s law would bring people to life. Why then in Gal 3:12 is Paul citing Lev 18:5 in such a seemingly negative way? In this paper, I will study Lev 18:5 and Hab 2:4 in its original context, then study how Paul uses both text in Gal 3:10-12. As I do this, I will focus especially on how the prepositions B (in/by) is translated in LXX for Lev 18:5 and Hab 2:4. What I will show is that while “live by/in them” in Lev 18:5 and “live by/in faith” in Hab 2:4 both use the preposition B (in/by), in LXX they are translated differently. Lev 18:5 translates it as evn no,mw","“in the law” in Lev 18:5. This proposal advocates that recovery of ontological truths on the grounds of the interrelationship and interaction of Trinity. Current trends, such as the subordinate-authority-submission and egalitarian debate are critiqued in the light of the ontological reading of Scripture. The recovery of apostolicity as an ontological attribute of Godhead provides significant insight and cohesion to the ontological Trinitarian proposal. The significance of how God produces existentially and ontologically His life within the believer will define humanity in being, through relationship to Godhead. Religious practices both biblical and extra-biblical are examined and considered to better understand the extent of the paradigmatic shift that occurs in the person of Jesus Christ. This proposal develops a fuller understanding of the composition of a human being in the image of God in ontological terms in contrast to the orthodoxy’s dichotomist, trichotomist assertions. The perspective of states in which a human being exists, culminate in the identification of the ‘πνευματικός’ believer as the sole form of legitimate existence that is biblically normalized and warranted. The ontological significance will also redefine church according to the nature and Person of Godhead, thereby widely reforming structures and functions according to ontological truths and practices. This argumentation has reconnected Church to the Trinity ontologically and demonstrated that Church utterly depends upon Trinitarian substance and operation to exist according to divine intentions.Emerging from this exegesis is a model of church: ontological and apostolic, originated, [re]sourced, and incarnate from the nature of Trinity, demonstrating undeniably that it is impossible for the Church of divine intent to exist outside of the three persons of the Godhead, she has no life of her own. Church is this incarnation because her origins, means, and object are of Godhead’s nature, intra-relationship, and operation; whether microcosm or macrocosm, her ontological existence in apostolic Godhead is the defining criterion. This trend is particularly strong with the generation known as 'Millennials,' where more than thirty-five percent reported that their religious affiliation is 'None.' This report has been widely reported on and has generated incredible anxiety in churches. While many in the church blame culture for a rapid decline of religious faith, it is the purpose of this thesis to show that one reason for the precipitous drop in religious identification in the United States is that the church has ceased to speak about God in a way that connects to the lived-experience of Millennials. If the gospel is going to spread in a post-Christian culture, then the church must learn to use variegated language to speak about how God is to be found in the world. This thesis uses the Five Theological Worlds from W. Paul Jones as a launching point to offer a better way to connect the lived-experience of Millennials to the way they understand how God works in the world. Six Millennials were chosen to participate in this project, which began with each individual taking the Theological Worlds Inventory. After completing the Inventory, participants took part in one-hour long experiences of each of the five Theological Worlds. After the completion of the experiences, they were invited to take the Theological Worlds Inventory for the second time, with the hope that any change in Theological World could be measured by their responses. Follow up interviews were done with each of the six participants with questions geared to measure how each of the experiences impacted their lived-experience and their theological understanding of how God is at work in their lives.
