The theological emphases of the church year are compressed and held in tension with the six 'deadly sins' which Wesley feared would threaten Methodism.  A twelve-item pencil-and-paper test for lay response was tested at seven churches to measure how effectively the full gospel was being proclaimed and received in worship. His view of this overall spiritual process incorporates elements of both particular crises and processes and is 'systemic' in nature, involving cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of human experience.  This project of ten weekly two-hour small group learning experiences employed pretest and both immediate and delayed posttest evaluations of participants' understanding.  While not statistically confirmed because of the limited number of participants, the findings point clearly to laypersons' ability to grasp comprehensively sanctification's meaning. Yet, often this opportunity is missed.  In light of this concern, the author developed a small group course, which was aimed to introduce adults to a Wesleyan way of relating to God.  By using experimental theology as a model and Kurt Lewin's 'Steps of Change' as an outline, he established a dialogue between the participants' experience and theological concepts in the Wesleyan heritage.
