This project suggests a suitable role and a proven model the minister can use to promote a parish program of chemical health.  Acting as a catalyst, using the redemptive principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, the object is to enlist the enthusiasm of parishioners to create a fellowship where learning, sharing and growth can occur.  The unique feature is that three diagnostic instruments are provided to identify chemical dependency. Disciplines used included scripture, early church history, practical theology, and behavioral science. The pastor achieved this by appointing four committees.  The history committee looked into how the church grew by caring in the past. The planning committee then took the work of the other three committees and developed three to five years of caring plans. The context of the study is marital therapy.  The possibility of denominalizing commonly used theological terms in the context of marital therapy hopes to give each member of the union additional choices over his-her communication and reconciliatory processes.  Evaluation of this experiment was pursued by subjective means with an emphasis on clinical observation.
