The researcher engaged in historical research by uncovering relevant material for lectures on Calvin's ministry practices. Six areas were examined: Calvin as preacher, teacher, friend, shepherd, leader, and theologian. These lectures were presented in four separate settings throughout the United States. Nine pastors participated in the follow-up interviews. To this end, a variety of prayer styles were compared. Years of personal experience were drawn on to formulate a series of teaching sessions presented at a small local church. The author's research revealed the biblical basis for prayer as the cornerstone of Christian discipline. It was also shown historically how a style of approach to prayer can set the tone for a whole movement within the church. Examples from the historical Korean prayer movement were drawn on frequently. The author examined and practiced the various prayer styles with her church members and defined both vocal and meditative prayer as major categories, each containing many distinct practices. The author found that the people who joined the program experienced new styles of prayers and spiritual gifts and wanted to learn more and prayed more."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126558399791104,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:29:56.179Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:41:59Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:39:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"45ecb962-b128-4a74-a221-d1ed0c60dc62","accessControl_ssim":["4a17dc91-9bca-4e5d-bc2e-19b49b7a5001"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Peacemaking in the church: claiming the power of the Christian narrative"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:41:57Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:09:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ec544b6f-9d1c-4d3e-b6de-29511f3c884c"],"hasLease_ssim":["943ae9c9-4779-4baa-90fb-345c7b0048b0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Carla J Works"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Peacemaking in the church is an unavoidable call for pastors and church members. They need to put into practice biblical, redemptive ways for peacebuilding as they respond to conflict. The Christian peacemaking approach requires spiritual discernment. The author presented such tools as biblical texts on conflict transformation like Acts 15 and 1 Corinthians 1, narrative theology and narrative leadership in order to claim the biblical faith in Jesus, the Crucified and the Mediator. These are utilized by sorting out 'competing stories' against the Christian narrative that conflicting situations often cause. In favor of the conflict transformation theory and practice, the author presented mediation processes such as the Circle Process that work well in the field of conflict transformation. Also the author stressed the practice of liturgical leadership among Christian mediators or peacemaking pastors and church members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718763755470848,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:39:21.748Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:39:19Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:51:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"68f61259-f421-42a2-b5df-417a7e828c85","accessControl_ssim":["11632701-f83c-42ca-8830-2597428faffe"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Embodied integrity: realizing the Holy Spirit via the social field in ecumenical conversation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:39:18Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:12:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a4d30800-2a03-4a0b-8fd1-34aa70014d4d"],"hasLease_ssim":["c0b8cf1c-ab97-4871-aac0-8efdb6e4f4ac"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Joseph A Conte"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Finally, he proposes five ways in which believers should participate in preaching: abiding in Christ, preaching the Word, testing the Word, guarding the Word, and proclaiming the Word."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132192456310784,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:59:29.234Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:23:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:57:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"592659dc-53fa-4fe1-8676-1880c1fac5e5","accessControl_ssim":["7eb9598a-a9cb-4ae3-918d-1bcd38cbc76a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The power of sung theology: encountering God through congregational song"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:23:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:44:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2ed31fc7-8bcb-451e-a376-130eaa840fc1"],"hasLease_ssim":["fc68965b-60a4-47a2-8e78-5f72ca89f7fc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kathy L Dawson","Paul Junggap Huh"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Patricia Ann Slomanski"],"keyword_tesim":["Church music--Congregational singing"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Music in the Bible","Music--Religious aspects","Hymns--Theology","Church music","Theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Encountering God through the power of sung theology has existed since the beginning of human history. In fact, the Bible records how prominent 'song' was during the days of the Hebrews, as well as in the early years of the Christian church. This report briefly explores how sung theology was used in the Bible, how theologians over the centuries debated its use, how sung theology has come to be used in the post-modern church, and, specifically, how it is practiced in two very different congregational settings. The model for this project is the case study in which both congregations have been carefully analyzed by the author and in which the pastors and members of both congregations have had the opportunity to express their own thoughts through the means of surveys and congregations. The project concludes with a call to all seminaries to consider offering worship music courses for those who are going into parish ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128286500225024,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:57:24.224Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:16:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:32:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"106b5f1f-8d29-48cf-b583-c2590d855532","accessControl_ssim":["aa4dbd1b-7aae-45c8-b5f4-41311d671213"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christ-centered motivation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:16:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:35:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3bda041d-fab0-4857-a5f3-077a5547c4e1"],"hasLease_ssim":["f9816f88-83db-4cb2-9b1a-9a3f8e450c45"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Jimmy Agan"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph O Stubbs"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)","Jesus Christ--History of doctrines"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Reward (Theology)","Punishment--Biblical teaching","Obedience","Theology","Jesus Christ","Preaching","Motivation (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author researched how to effectively use all of the different motivations the Bible provides to motivate Christian obedience in sermons while still remaining centered on Christ.
