In this thesis it is emphasized that the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is the foundation to make preaching possible.  One of the major problems in preaching is its dryness and weakness, for preaching deals with dry biblical exegesis on the cognitive level rather than spiritual crisis.  This project combines practical suggestions for more effective and powerful preaching, supported by the Holy Spirit, with an understanding from perspectives based on biblical understanding on the work of the Holy Spirit in preaching and in writings of John Wesley and Karl Barth.  The major work of the Holy Spirit in preaching is to make the objective reality of revelation the subjective reality; consequently, preachers and audiences come to believe the text is written for them and overcome the purely cognitive level in preaching. The action in ministry was an eleven-week course called 'The Lord's Prayer As Vocation.' Eight young adult members of Trinity Old Lutheran Church (Eggertsville, NY), four men and four women, participated. The process aimed to assist principals in Catholic education to identify their own faith development needs and to clarify their ministry in today's cultural climate.  The process was developed with seven principals in the Halton Roman Catholic School Board (Burlington, Ontario) from June 1990 to June 1991. The preachers of the conservative side have laid their emphasis upon biblicalism, fundamentalism, evangelicalism, and personal salvation, whereas those of the liberal ecumenical group have stressed liberation, ecumenism, syncretism, and social redemption.  This project attempts to discover the possibility of combining evangelical preaching with liberal preaching in the Korean church.  Expository preaching is presented as an effective model which creatively synthesizes evangelical preaching and liberating preaching. Expository preaching attempts to bind together the Word of God and the Incarnate Word.  It insists that a preacher ought to be only not the proclaimer but also the doer of what he/she proclaimed. The Twelve Steps offer a spirituality which has often caused confusion along confessional Lutherans.  Methodology involved interviewing Lutheran alcoholics, non-alcoholic Lutherans and clergy. The Twelve Steps were evaluated according to law and gospel. A brief study of the influence of American civil religion and two kingdom theology gave a backdrop in which to place the Twelve Steps. What steps are pastors taking to help listeners put the preached Word into practice?  Pastors of the Southeastern District of the Evangelical Free Church of America were polled to determine what actions they take before, during, and after preaching to facilitate listener response.  Findings revealed strength in sermon preparation, construction, and delivery.  Preachers indicated weakness, however, in developing the call for response and subsequent follow-through.  Few pastors provided opportunity for listeners to plan and practice personal change. The project design incorporates a process for empowering single parents within a local parish to minister to other single parents using a model of theological reflection that fosters personal spirituality and articulation of the faith from the perspective of a single parent.  Operative theological, christological, ecclesial, and ministerial assumptions are named and guide the process.  A survey is developed to assess the formal needs of single parents and recruit single parents for the group process. Intrinsic individualism in both Lao and American cultures militates against spiritual formation, promoting divisions between various spheres of life and tending to divorce God from a central place in human life.  A bicultural, bilingual team is aiding a Midwest congregation in their spiritual formation.  Together with Lao and Americans, they studied and acted on the nature of the church using a Reformed tradition and a model of human culture to interpret the nature of the church. The author sought to discover whether or not such a ministerial identity appropriation took place; how students recognized such an appropriation; and to what extent the process of theological reflection in the seminar setting was critical to the act of appropriation. The methodology incorporated a two-item questionnaire, modified case studies, and follow-up interviews with four of the twenty-five participants.  The five categories from Women's Ways of Knowing by Belenky, et al, asessed each woman's level of individuation and differentiation.
