Findings from the study include the critical nature of a gospel-saturated culture for the vulnerability to build trust, the value of understanding the negotiation of interests through preaching to build trust, the necessary match of the public and priv ate communication from the senior leadership, and the clearly communicated intent of redemptive purpose of vulnerability to build trust."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130885652742144,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:42.969Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:35:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:41:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"81b2ef5c-58f8-46f3-8440-d46fd973fbca","accessControl_ssim":["70dc07f5-7f9f-4715-9686-ae526bbf0313"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Learning to dance: how to build community trust the first six months of a pastorate"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:35:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:57:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e899c1de-7ea0-41e3-b776-b31b92e6adb1"],"hasLease_ssim":["186860f4-f651-4275-8f73-b7e22189860e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hood Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Albert J Aymer"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Suzanne C Cobb"],"publisher_tesim":["Hood Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Trust","Clergy","Laity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The United Methodist Church functions within an itinerant system where clergy are appointed for one year. The study used semi-structured interviews with four pastors in the Presbyterian Church in America and two from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The review of literature examined scripture, Christian literature and secular literature regarding how leaders lead staff teams. The analysis focused on three areas: how to build trust, what understanding of relational systems are helpful in leading a team, and how personal spiritual growth affects team leadership. The study found that trust is established as the leader practices consistency of character, motivating the team toward a clear vision, developing good communication, mutual accountability, and building an atmosphere of authentic joy. Church staff teams were often strengthened and trust built through difficult situations. The study also found that it is vital for effective leaders to understand relational systems. Finally, the study concluded that spiritual health and vitality are essential for lead pastors to be effective. Effective leaders have consistent and vital times in Bible study and prayer. The leaders interviewed practiced spiritual disciplines on a regular basis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130529596178432,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:33:03.407Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:37:05Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:45:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c3ceb5e1-4448-495e-86ee-d4de143c493b","accessControl_ssim":["e3c6d57c-d6d1-4565-b018-93b7a9b49192"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A case study of the impact of trust on the effectiveness of church leadership"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:37:04Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:45:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b58339d6-6a13-4c51-ba60-94265376cb86"],"hasLease_ssim":["893a11b7-bd9b-4dab-8ea5-03c7855438d3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald L Reed"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James G Hanna"],"publisher_tesim":["Bethel Seminary (St. Paul, MN)"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Trust","Clergy","Laity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis utilized a case study method to examine the impact of trust upon church leaders and congregants in four churches in Tracy, California. The findings revealed the behaviors that build trust in these churches are: character, consistency, caring, communication and competency. The results also indicated that behaviors that decrease trust in these churches are: breaking promises, pride, lack of respect, lack of communication and incompetency.
