After interviewing ten Asian American churches in the northeastern United States in regards to their discipleship processes, and reviewing selected literature on discipleship, a process was developed. Churches in the United States often struggle to effectively equip believers with a strong foundation in the Word of God and to multiply by making disciples. The lack of relationships within the church body that encourage and guide spiritual formation, and discipleship that does not integrate transparent relationships, mutual accountability, and biblical truth, are part of the cause. The discipleship process that is presented within addresses these issues."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129920344162304,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:22.378Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:52:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:45:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0f2a0047-f68c-4a39-bf09-e970ceeb7197","accessControl_ssim":["69d88dd6-5892-4a66-832f-a52920850374"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A critique of the absolute-truth claim of Churches of Christ and its impotence to support God's reign"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:52:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:33:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7d822f9a-cb0b-4dfd-ab8a-b32895ef0fc2"],"hasLease_ssim":["298e5528-33ab-4668-835d-7c0f961b0213"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Robert C Walker"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Roderick D Hunter"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Belief and doubt","Churches of Christ","Authority--Religious aspects","Truth--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The context of this model was the American Restoration Movement, Churches of Christ, and specifically congregations of the Ministerial Study Group. The objective of this project was to critique the absolute-truth claim of Churches of Christ and the interpretive and methodological structures that maintain it. The research methods used to test the hypothesis were action research and the pro-active method, using questionnaires, workshops, surveys, and interviews. The results showed that adherents were willing to rethink the absolute-truth claim. The author proposes that religious truth is always experiential and therefore necessarily participative (tangible), historical/evolutionary (non-eternal), and interpretive (non-intuitive).
