The project is limited to funding the local church, while recognizing that stewardship includes the totality of life in response to God as Creator and Redeemer. The study includes an overview of the history of church funding, an analysis of current funding programs, and a comparative inquiry of local churches, ministers and funding practices in the North Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. They frequently seem more concerned with the church's new appearance than how the building will aid in carrying out the mission and conducting the worship of their church.  The handbook is to be used to assist the congregation as it engages in dialogue about the mission of the church and the worship of their congregation.
