This project was designed to answer that question and to be an instrument used by other churches in Appalachia to enhance the meaning of church membership.  The project utilized a thirteen-week discussion manual and video.  The course dealt with those topics of interest determined by members who were surveyed within the author's context of ministry. What can we learn from this comparative study?  Historical background, cultural factors, points of emphasis of each church has a lot to do with growth or decline. However, many local churches of both denominations are growing, if there is the dedication of an able, visionary, and spiritual pastor, committed laity, and ministries which meet the physical and spiritual needs of people in the community. Cross racial/cultural ministry is defined as those persons who are members of one ethnic group in ministry to those of another ethnic group within the context of a local church.
