A university-oriented church is an intergenerational congregation that chooses to be close to a major college or university community, including physically, socially, culturally, and spiritually, and actively engages that community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The author completed a series of interviews with leaders of churches around the United States that are focused on secular university communities. These churches were formed with this vision and made repeated choices to keep that vision central."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130238810324992,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:28:26.092Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:17:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:37:21Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4dad9a4c-05db-4d91-90f7-580390123bc5","accessControl_ssim":["ff8366d6-9c75-4293-afe0-0d0e2637711f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An academic course on spiritual formation: understanding, developing, and implementing a strategy for spiritual growth of students in a Christian higher education institution"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:17:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:24:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b32ef684-d821-4919-9e86-0e65fd200cb0"],"hasLease_ssim":["65f2faa5-e65a-435d-94ff-ac80cf8bdb66"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Kenneth L Swetland"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Young Ho Hwang"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Education--Curricula","Students--Religious life","Spiritual formation","Spiritual life--Christianity","Universities and colleges"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this thesis-project is to understand the process of spiritual formation in order to develop and implement an academic course on spiritual formation that will help students to mature spiritually. Conclusions are drawn from a survey of works on the critical factors that contribute to the process of spiritual formation. Spiritual formation is 'being alive to God' and 'being like God.' That is, a person undergoing spiritual formation grows in intimacy, love, devotion and knowledge of God and becomes more like God in his thoughts, emotions, desires and behavior. The basic factors in this process are: (1) what God has done for the believer, (2) what God has made possible for him/her, and (3) how a Christian responds to what God has done and made possible for him/her. These factors are rooted in God's sovereign grace. God makes spiritual formation possible and works with his people as they go through the process of spiritual formation. This two credit hour academic course on spiritual formation has been developed for undergraduate students at a Christian university. Students will gain valuable knowledge regarding spiritual formation and experience training that is critical for a lifestyle that makes spiritual formation possible. The course design was evaluated by several university faculty members who approved it 'across the board.'"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130804021100544,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:25.119Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:15:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7de9e326-7784-4ee4-8406-c7fb16b0e27f","accessControl_ssim":["3c1576cb-b394-4af6-9e34-865a8b79288a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A working faith: examining the Christian faith at work"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:15:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:50:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4b271a55-d63f-4876-b239-433d322f97cb"],"hasLease_ssim":["24fa2b2f-a063-4c2d-a09d-68782cb2155d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James E Motes"],"keyword_tesim":["Relation (Theology)"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Industrial management","Education--Curricula","Leadership","Work--Biblical teaching","Universities and colleges","Religion in the workplace","Work (Theology)","Human capital"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this thesis is to help undergraduate business and human resource managerial students develop and articulate in their own words a biblical-Christian model of work and redemptive leadership.
