Many small LCMS churches are not growing in a variety of areas.  The author researched helping churches by visiting eleven churches and giving them suggestions.  He then revisited the churches three months later to evaluate growth.  Eight churches grew in a variety of ways, two were stagnant, and one closed. The project included enlisting twelve facilitators for the inactive member visitation team.  The training encompassed four sessions taught in a single day.  The workship lasted five hours and the training module and the facilitators' growth were evaluated. Several types of evaluation were used including: expert evaluation, survey, post test, and pastoral reflection.
