The project included 3 phases: planning, preparation and program.  During the final phase, the project director, his nine project assistants, and a trained corps of thirty volunteers from the church made approximately seventy ministry contacts to the church's military families during periods of job-related separation. An aging society challenges the church to be aware of the problems that face the elderly and to help alleviate those problems.  Our biblical faith and Christian heritage emphasize the importance of the laity in ministry. An extensive research of printed data and current programs leads to a pilot project of visitation by the author and a fifteen-member task group.  The main goal is to provide an avenue of care to the elderly of Central Church.  The project enables the laity to see the need for a shared ministry to the church's aged. The central proposal is that a liturgical rite, specifically designed for use in home visitation, can be a valuable tool in helping a pastor become a more effective visitor.  A rite modeled on the 'Affirmation of Baptism' order in the Lutheran Book of Worship is used in parish visits.  Response forms from the visited are included in the project. The participants use group study methods to explore their theology of visitation as it is reflected in their image of ministry and the church.  They explore such aspects of the visitation environment as location, listening skills, awareness of agendas and time management. At the end of the course the participants construct and implement a program of pastoral visitation which is evaluated after four weeks.  The study gives a greater understanding of pastoral visitation. These words describe the dynamics which occur in pastoral care visits with older people.  The project states a brief definition of each word as a pastoral care concept.  It conducts a biblical word study and, through a questionnaire, asks peers in ministry (chaplains, visitation pastors, students) to critique the validity of the proposed approach. Based on the love commandment, this project outlines a four-part workshop presented to the First Christian Church in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Methodology entailed instruction, preparation for specific visits, with feedback and discussion to reflect on effectiveness of calls made and-or need for further istruction.
