An unscientific survey was used to discover the general knowledge of the importance of theology, the legitimacy of creeds and confessions, and the Westminster Confession itself. Constructive criticisms were given as to style, choice of words, and theological content. The project achieved its primary purpose, which was to expose laymen to the Westminster Confession and Reformed theology."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130789399756800,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:37:11.175Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:41:14Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c2997260-1f4e-4ea6-9224-b9b7527f5598","accessControl_ssim":["506b1f4e-198b-45e1-b107-b51839cb1cd5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Subscription to the Westminster Standards: a brief survey and analysis [independent study project]"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:41:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:43:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["16287fc9-3865-42ee-8b59-bdfb473eb254"],"hasLease_ssim":["4d8932a8-0b82-4798-9d27-f76a8ad879bb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David B Calhoun"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James E Urish"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Presbyterian Church in America","Creeds","Westminster Confession"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This brief historical survey rejects the view of unqualified subscription to the Westminster Standards, and also rejects the 'full subscriptionist' view of Morton Smith. The author shows from the earliest history of the Adopting Act of 1729 to the present day in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) that scruples or reservations with the Confession and Catechisms of Westminster have been permitted. It has always been the prerogative of Presbytery to listen to a candidate and decide whether his exceptions or reservations strike at the vitals of the system of doctrine. The PCA, in its current discussion of subscription, should stay on course with the historical purpose and practice of sincerely receiving and adopting the Westminster Standards as containing the system of doctrine taught in Holy Scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131427750805504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:47:19.954Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:19:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"97c85936-2890-4695-8a70-9f6692dedb60","accessControl_ssim":["271239b9-915a-4435-9bdd-faf01ad08641"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Perfect freedom: the New Testament believer and the Old Testament law"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:19:18Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:34:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["15b82c85-4cca-4c2d-813e-b07ea129c725"],"hasLease_ssim":["2aa52a72-cd4a-46dc-b4ae-7d92b2c913d1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1987"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["J Render Caines"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Conduct of life--Biblical teaching","Law (Theology)","Bible","Westminster Confession"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this project is that it is essential for the New Testament believer to have a working knowledge of the Old Testament law.
