A training course of 12 sessions was conducted.  Instruments used for measurement included a pre- and posttraining questionnaire, quizzes, weekly journals, the seminar evaluation form, and the analysis of the participant's family autobiography. Respondents to a written questionnaire participated in the placement process at Union Theological Seminary in Virginia between 1991 and 1994.  Results indicate that most of the women experienced pain or discriminatory practices during their search for permanent placement. Parameters placed on the search process negatively affected the candidate's ability to find placement, and also their perception of the process. The thesis employs a methodology of oral history using as informants indigenous Methodist women.  It contains stories of Meru women who have borne the gospel to homes, families, villages, schools, and helped found churches and Christian movements.
