The research highlights these points: (a) Many conservative evangelical women live within a male-preferred cultural context that defines them through a model of goodness and inequality. (b) Historically, some of these women have sought an identity beyond home and family. (c) In response to the feminist movement, many conservative evangelical churches grounded women's identity in the home, family, and church. (d) The church's response created an ongoing theological debate about women's roles that negatively affects women. The biblical research defines female personhood through the doctrine of the imago Dei and explores its meaning for women today by relating the imago Dei with the doctrine of Christology. Several of Paul's scriptural passages with regard to women are also interpreted through these two doctrines. Finally, the research findings confirm that some conservative evangelical Christian women report a depressive mood and that there are various reasons why. Suggestions for future study are discussed."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129928044904448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:29.722Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:07:35Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:58:07Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b4d14f9a-6b80-4ad2-b254-e2b7b8f3da08","accessControl_ssim":["c5bd841b-43f4-423e-b38d-4ef165747994"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Seminary-trained women: employed or not employed? The study explores the development of the biblical and theological history limiting women's vocational choices. It traces the enactment, well into the 1960s, of 'disjoining' in the deaconess order. Remembrances of affected women enflesh the archival records. A theological framework is applied to assess the quality of the apology. The disjoining and the apology are both stories of lost opportunity. The women lost vocational expression and suffered economic and social loss. The church made no connections with continuing patterns of gender-based discrimination."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715439690907648,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:46:31.673Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:17:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:25:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"dd928385-7415-45eb-bd1c-ecc19326153e","accessControl_ssim":["c0113cd7-4df4-4c62-a20f-8742a514138e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Invitation to maturity: a pre-mentoring program based on Titus 2:3-5"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:17:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:28:29Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["90598c70-cf89-4123-bd29-6de375cf2eca"],"hasLease_ssim":["a04e2b77-f734-4bcc-b232-d0f314533430"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["David Seiver"],"year_tesim":["2008"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Christine G Hanak"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Women","Women in church work","Older people","Mentoring in church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Titus 2:3-5 describes godly older women mentoring younger women, but in much of the world, older women have not been discipled to be good examples.
