Four categories of brokenness--divisiveness, arrogance, idolatry, and hardness of heart--gleaned through exegesis of Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians are explored. Five ways of knowing for women--'silence,' as well as 'received,' 'procedural,' 'subjective,' and 'constructivist' knowing--attributed to Mary Belenky and her research group are considered. The methodology of the praxis circle, including the movements of formation, event, self-interest, theological assumptions, social science assumptions, and new praxis, is employed. Ten stories based on interviews are presented. Implications for pastoral counselors working with women experiencing ministerial burnout include the relevance of Paul's categories and Belenky's ways of knowing, the appropriateness of 'mending brokenness' as an image of reconciliation and the importance of storytelling in 'finding one's voice'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128477291773952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:00:26.177Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:43:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d9c36755-84cd-4be7-9782-0568628dba62","accessControl_ssim":["cd43ec85-5585-4058-86db-4f2dea6db432"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastoral critique of polygamy in South Africa"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:09:52Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:21:20Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["12a99fb4-f9b0-48a6-9035-088e03674f3d"],"hasLease_ssim":["90884072-caa6-4907-8328-a66eb546ef75"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Martin L Harkey"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"location_tesim":["South Africa"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Margaret E Montjane"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Women","Polygamy","Church work with families"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["To carry out an effective pastoral ministry among women in South Africa the church must evaluate its position concerning polygamous marriages. The thesis documents the breakthrough experience in the lives of these women as they name the causes and consequences of their growing feminist self-awareness and the relationship of their self-awareness to their own spiritual journey. The theory of Bernard Lonergan's self-appropriation of the human subject undergirds this study. This theoretical framework shapes the process of theological reflection used with the women and sets the scene for an understanding of emerging consciousness in women that is liberating. A feminist methodology is employed which situates the research in the experience of the researcher. The findings of this study confirm that there is an emerging feminist consciousness among Catholic women which needs to be nurtured by conscientized and sensitive ministers. It also affirms that ministry to women and by women is a priority in the Church today."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799715125582626816,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:41:32.115Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:44:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:45:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"772eebb8-7354-4fa7-99a5-362bd750b77e","accessControl_ssim":["9fc1c35b-98a0-43c1-9c56-4f468ac0a1e7"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Counseling to women who are the victims of child sexual abuse"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T01:44:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:38:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c7ab7590-c1a2-4003-aaa4-7640914f2180"],"hasLease_ssim":["450751c8-5977-43fd-89ed-b71f619dadcc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Ursula Riedel-Pfäfflin"],"year_tesim":["1991"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Abraham J Athialy"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Adult child sexual abuse victims","Church work with abuse victims","Women","Object relations (Psychoanalysis)","Suffering of God","Psychology","Counseling"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Child sexual abuse is a serious problem in our society. Because the paper deals exclusively with counseling female survivors the biblical and theological perspectives are weighted toward the feminist perspective.
