Four categories of brokenness--divisiveness, arrogance, idolatry, and hardness of heart--gleaned through exegesis of Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians are explored. Five ways of knowing for women--'silence,' as well as 'received,' 'procedural,' 'subjective,' and 'constructivist' knowing--attributed to Mary Belenky and her research group are considered. The methodology of the praxis circle, including the movements of formation, event, self-interest, theological assumptions, social science assumptions, and new praxis, is employed. Ten stories based on interviews are presented. Implications for pastoral counselors working with women experiencing ministerial burnout include the relevance of Paul's categories and Belenky's ways of knowing, the appropriateness of 'mending brokenness' as an image of reconciliation and the importance of storytelling in 'finding one's voice'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128477291773952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:00:26.177Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:12:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:30:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e01833ba-fca3-41b5-a728-6311d738e688","accessControl_ssim":["d92dc900-a2ac-4ad6-a310-ef786bb2c6f3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Hearing our voices: clergywomen speak about mutual ministry"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:12:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:33:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6d3835d9-3568-4b9d-be58-0893c926f679"],"hasLease_ssim":["ec54f331-2714-408a-a12b-38363486ff5a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["Julieanne S Hallman"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janet P Mackey"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Clergy--Office","Women clergy","Peer counseling in the church","Vocation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This paper summarizes the theological perspective of seventeen clergywomen who engaged in peer theological reflection about the call and practice of ministry. They presented and discussed case studies, thereby providing numerous examples for understanding the centrality of relationship in women's ministry. The author's theoretical perspective includes a relational understanding about human growth and ministry. Participants expressed a dilemma of choice between themselves and their communities of ministry. Mutual ministry offers a resolution, and includes becoming empowered and empowering others together. Fourteen women were interviewed; their profiles and the author's are shared in the paper.
