The specific focus of this project is to identify ten essentials that will provide information and guidelines that could help women move through the process. Quantitative and qualitative research were used by sending questionnaires to all 409 women married to clergy in the West Virginia Annual Conference and talking to those who feel called. The research showed that women married to clergy are not struggling with the call into pastoral ministry more than others not married to clergy are. This thesis will explore the sociological, historical, biblical and theological reasons that unequivocally discourage women from using their ministry gifts of teaching and preaching the Word of God within the context of the church.  The author used two surveys and a hexagon focus group to gather data. The project-thesis examines challenges facing clergywomen, especially those serving their second or third appointment. Special attention is given to spiritual practices that nurture their vocation over the long haul. The paper suggests ways to encourage open communication between bishops, district superintendents, female pastors, and local congregations. The importance of support from denominational officials is highlighted. A study of clergywomen in the United States unveils the dynamics of sexual harassment.  Vivid personal stories from women who experienced sexual harassment show that problems usually are left unattended by church leaders.  The secular law, women's studies, family systems theory, and leadership paradigms each offer challenges and opportunities. During the Fall of 2003, students at Central Bible College voluntarily participated in a course on women in ministry. Students (one male and seven females) were surveyed at the beginning and the end of the course. Students demonstrated a significant increase in their understanding of the biblical basis for women in ministry. The researcher hypothesized that women in group therapy will heal more rapidly than those in individual counseling.  The results from therapy sessions held over a period of six months supported the researcher's hypothesis.  The researcher concluded that pastoral counseling with a focus on reframing techniques is more successful in group therapy.
