This study focuses on the perspectives on women in the church context that devalue women as imperfect and inferior beings in relationship with others. It addresses the problematic situation of gender relations in the Korean church context with a critical analysis, and shows how cultural and social norms concerning women are deeply embedded in the Korean church context. It also reveals how the problematic situation has been reinforced by its association with, and acceptance of, fundamentalist theology. This study draws on transformative learning theory as a way of fashioning a new educational model for Korean women in the church. Even though the educational theory of transformative education has been developed and applied in various educational contexts, it has rarely been discussed in a faith-based context. This project shows how it is possible to utilize transformative education theory in a faith-based context, through a case study with a class at a Bible institute. This study also draws upon narrative pedagogy as a practical principle to create a religious educational model for Korean women in the church context. Theological discussion centered on Minjung theology particularly, with the notion of shin-myung, is important in order to contextualize the narrative framework in the Korean context. As a powerful tool for promoting perspective transformations in the church, reading the sacred story, the Bible, is discussed with feminist and post-colonial perspectives. Integrating these theoretical discussions, the religious education model for Korean women is grounded on the group experiences with Korean women in two different settings, church and school. This model can initiate perspective transformation, not only in the women themselves but also in others. The educational experiences in the women's group provide possibilities and hopes for bringing meaningful changes in Korean women's context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132115963740160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:16.284Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:10:04Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fa278f43-8ac9-4fa4-af49-f9b8d8f9dbe3","accessControl_ssim":["f8b11e1c-ed40-487d-9133-801354b2d669"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Experiencing God's grace in the chaos: lectio divina for women"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:10:03Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:16:28Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e8790831-3512-4816-b225-b04fcfb65c2b"],"hasLease_ssim":["3be4f840-87e0-4fc1-b557-49eab5c74d4d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["William Harkins"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"location_tesim":["Tennessee--Greeneville"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary Katherine White"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Women in Christianity","Lectio divina","Spiritual life--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Taking time to nurture spirituality often takes a back seat for women. Care provided is for missionaries themselves, mission organizations, and supporting churches. The goal is to lead missionaries to become better prepared for mission fields and in home assignment, and to provide holistic care in personal development and career proficiency. Results indicate that the greatest difficulty is the cross-cultural social aspect, then the emotional aspect. Married missionaries are more emotionally stable. Korean women have lived with social values and principles that are grounded in a dualistic patriarchy and hierarchal system. These values and principles hinder the spirituality of liberation in Korean society and church. Christian tradition and the Bible present the authentic spirituality that Jesus Christ shows us from his life. This authentic and holistic spirituality and new perspective of Christian doctrines propose ways for new vision in the Korean church. The final chapter suggests spiritual direction as a pastoral response to help Korean Christian women. The method of James Whitehead and Evelyn Whitehead is employed which has three stages: attending, assertion and pastoral response."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["7eda0323-a6d9-4fe2-807a-22620dd389a5"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127997816766464,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:52:48.914Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":22,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
