The author addresses how ministry leaders pursue spiritual formation when living in the context of wilderness experiences. The research follows a qualitative method of the semi-structured interview and is focused on women in leadership. In the context of an eight-week, learning-focused, mentoring relationship, participants developed leadership and communication skills, and set goals for spiritual and ministerial growth. All participants showed growth in all specified areas in their final assessment of the mentoring program. The project director identified five leadership skills, five communication skills and five spiritual formation qualities necessary for ministry excellence. This thesis will explore the sociological, historical, biblical and theological reasons that unequivocally discourage women from using their ministry gifts of teaching and preaching the Word of God within the context of the church.  The author used two surveys and a hexagon focus group to gather data.
