She used qualitative triangulation data to develop and test the course 'Women in Ministry'. Although women represented over 50% of the church's membership, findings revealed cultural/traditional socialization and lack of finances impeded their advancement. The pilot stimulated awareness, transformed participants' perceptions and aptitude. Small group meetings provided a network of support for seminarians.  A Circle of Mentors consisting of ordained women clergy employed in full time ministry positions provided their expertise and personal examples for discerning, female seminarians. Because of the resistance and difficulties they face in the ministry job market many of these women are expressing anger and disillusionment with the church and with God. Some are even entertaining the idea of walking away from their faith altogether. This investigation attempts to uncover the factors contributing to the problem many seminary-trained American women face in locating suitable employment in ministry positions. The investigator explores this problem as related to the status of women in American culture; Christian (particularly evangelical) culture; the religious landscape in America; church history; evangelical and fundamentalist theology; churches, denominations, and academies; the emerging church movement; seminary recruiting and placement practices; and student debt. The investigator designed and delivered a seminar to female students at two evangelical seminaries to address the problem of ministry placement for women. Using a phenomenological approach and practical theological method, the author provided six in-depth case studies of women who had completed CPE supervisory training.  The author concluded that shame, sexuality and speech act as hinges on a door; i.e., they can act to either shut out or open up the way towards collegiality in ministry. A unique experiential group process designed for the women taking part in the project and also in-depth case studies were used in the research. The methodology is feminist and therefore attempts to break free from traditional understandings of research. The focus of the research is on the women's experience of ministry and supervision and their understanding of spirituality and their vision of ministry with women.  The insights from this study include the effect of patriarchal structures on women, the lack of skills of critical analysis to identify patriarchal reality, the minimal support and nurture for feminists' spirituality, and the limited provision of opportunity to discuss theology from a feminist perspective.
