Interviews were carried out with seven clergywomen and twenty-four laywomen.  The relationships described were categorized according to models of fathering developed by other researchers.  Responses about gender-specific names for God were put together with father-daughter relationship data to see possible patterns. The greatest difference appeared between clergywomen and laywomen.  Clergywomen were more discriminating in choosing names for the divinity; laywomen were open to a wider variety of names. Through three case studies the author investigated what the image of God of a woman with eating problems might look like: both her more conscious God concept and the underlying 'God representations' which are shaped primarily by her experience of her own parents as these 'object relations' are stored in her psychic structure. The women were experiencing various transitions in their lives with resulting crises in their inner and outer worlds. The study demonstrates the critical issues for this population in the developmental period of young adulthood and implications for ministry with them.  The four issues and concerns that arise from the research are: the meaning of success, maintaining the balance of career and family, valuing connection in relationships and applying faith to business ethics.
