This project consists of eight modules that will be used to help Christian executives have a comprehensive theology of work and leadership. Thus there is need for a tool that will enable Christ-followers who are not occupational ministers to come to understand that they are, indeed, vocational ministers; that God has called each person to and gifted each person for a distinct ministry -- be it in the home or the local church or the marketplace or all the above. The secondary premise of this project is that leadership is, above all, influence. It is the ability to inspire and stimulate others to follow. With that in mind, it is incumbent upon all Christ-followers to 'lead' others to the Savior and to the truths of the Kingdom of God. Thus, the process-curriculum developed in this project will raise various issues of leadership that are essential for the Christ-follower to grapple with if he or she is going to make an impact for the cause of Christ in the marketplace. Of particular concern is the training of Christ-followers to think critically, both of the calling God has placed on their lives and how that must be fleshed out in the context of their day-to-day living. All too often, Christ-followers see their 'nine to five' either as a place simply to earn a paycheck or to achieve some degree of status and success, not a place wherein they experience the abundant life Jesus came to give us and lead others toward the same. The thesis begins with the assertion that the marketplace is primed for and, at least to some degree, receptive to spiritual things, and the Christ-follower must be prepared to 'make the most of every opportunity' (Eph. 5:16; Col. 4:5). To lay a foundation for this preparation, the thesis then goes on to present an overview of a theology of work and the misconceptions that many Christ-followers have of work and the workplace. By establishing that by and large Christendom has missed the message of the scriptures with regard to work, the need for distinctively Christian leadership in the marketplace will be recognized. Distinctively Christian leadership includes much of the current wisdom in the arena of leadership development, which will be reviewed, but it raises the bar to show that competencies are not the most important things. More important are the elements of calling and character. Thus, this project will explore the elements of calling and character for the distinctively Christian leader, making the case that calling connects a person's work to God's agenda and that character makes a difference in his/her effectiveness on the job as well as his/her attractiveness to and impact on others. The end goal of the project is to develop a process-curriculum that effectively mobilizes Christ-followers to make an impact for his kingdom in the most influential arena of our world -- the marketplace."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132999492829184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:12:18.883Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:24:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:56:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"ab4609c8-6288-42ec-8591-f5070982f349","accessControl_ssim":["890a928a-bf37-421c-baf8-8cf444c72b84"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Christ at work: exploring the Prayer Book perspective of the workplace"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:24:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:04:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["db71ecba-daf1-4952-97d2-3db66d14c553"],"hasLease_ssim":["8cce0033-718a-424c-a643-8dbd7f5d9ead"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Paul D Jagoe"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Book of Common Prayer","Episcopal Church","Theology","Vocation","Work--Religious aspects--Christianity","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis project explores the Book of Common Prayer to discern whether it contains an adequate theological perspective of the workplace. Episcopalians, like Christians everywhere, are in need of practical theological help to live out their faith in the workplace. The good news is that we have two sources for daily practical Christian living: the Bible and the Prayer Book. Others have explored the Scriptures; this work explores the Prayer Book. It is a common belief in the Episcopal Church that liturgy shapes our faith. It is, therefore, important work to understand the theology of work in the Prayer Book, and to let it become the mold into which our lives are poured. The thesis begins with a theological study of work in the Book of Common Prayer. This study includes two important works that were fashioned for this study. There is a collection of every text in the Prayer Book that deals with work. These texts were then annotated theologically. The second work is a theological compilation which was composed from the annotated texts. These two documents provided the basis for a theological narrative. The literature search explores two areas. First, it focuses on what has been written about theology of work in the Book of Common Prayer. Second, it includes all known American Episcopalian authors who have written on the general topic of Christianity in the workplace. These authors have a number of helpful and interesting ways to reflect on life at work. Finally, a weekend retreat plan is provided. The purpose and format of the retreat are designed to reflect and respond to the various theological points that are found in the Prayer Book. The retreat ends with a Holy Eucharist that is designed to bring liturgical closure to this weekend and to this study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132003254403072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:28.797Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:02:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:30:02Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2b245a26-6da9-4e2b-ae1d-426790545bf8","accessControl_ssim":["a6a42b30-522c-424b-a93b-5bd5418c6a4f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching to career minded people"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:02:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:23:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["89781b8a-ac7f-4c35-88c2-4fceb0781a91"],"hasLease_ssim":["d59d4ea8-b77e-41bc-9084-bd1db1d806a7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Haddon W Robinson"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert P Reimer"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Preaching","Work--Religious aspects--Christianity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Christian professionals often struggle to make connection between their faith and their marketplace. By their own admission, they too seldom find guidance from the local church. Yet, they spend the majority of their waking hours at work. Materials related to the topic of preaching to career minded people were rare indeed. research was done in the following areas: theology of work, the demands and challenges of the workplace, professionals and their values, Christians and their workplace, and preaching. It is essential for clergy to preach relevant messages that display how to apply faith in the workplace. Living authentic Christian lives at work will enable these career-minded people to be fully developed, and to influence the society in which we live. Pastors need to understand these professionals, their work environment, and how to communicate effectively to help them connect faith and work. A seminar was developed to help clergy make the necessary connection between faith and career-minded people."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130345810165760,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:30:08.135Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":10,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
