For the purposes of this project, I am defining it as worship that intentionally involves in a balanced manner the entire age span ranging from preschoolers to older adults as participants in the action of Christian worship…. The particular approach to intergenerational worship in this project is not a pre-conceived liturgy or set order of worship; but rather it is an open approach that values variety and diversity in worship… This project does not propose any closed theology of intergenerational worship. The intent of the writer is to encourage experimentation and to offer some possibilities alongside other innovations in worship for children, youth, and adults. The designing of intergenerational liturgies by this writer involves thematic unity. Without a fixed order to provide a framework for the liturgies, it is important that the theme of each celebration be the thread that holds the liturgy together. It is the writer’s intent that thematic unity will be evident in the four model liturgies in this project. However, thematic unity is not intended to be a basic tenet for all intergenerational worship, and it is not dealt with extensively in this project. A theological basis for intergenerational worship and developmental awareness are dealt with more fully in this project. Theological criteria, whether those presented in this project or not, are important when one is experimenting with innovations in worship. The theological criteria in chapter two of this project are basic to this writer’s approach to intergenerational worship in the local church. Sensitivity to people of all ages is vital for an inclusive, age-balanced liturgy; and so developmental awareness is a key ingredient in this writer's work with intergenerational worship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851860273832394752,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T15:26:20.727Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:10:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:35:24Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0e484fa3-498d-4abc-815e-90d6c0b93afd","accessControl_ssim":["e9438afa-9ee6-49af-bd7b-72c524a2a2fe"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Children at worship"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:10:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:31:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2a786f5b-d581-4765-935b-986b2600f607"],"hasLease_ssim":["43bb2767-5875-45be-b14d-040805362529"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Osvaldo Luis Mottesi"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Norman C Smith"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Children--Religious life","Children and adults","Experience (Religion)","Christian education","Worship"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Children, ages two to twelve, are capable of worship and should be included in the congregational worship o f a Christian church. Every portion of the letter is squeezed for every inference that can be drawn as to 1st century cultic practice which can be translated into our contemporary liturgy. Directions, examples, implications, and first principles drawn from the text of 1 Corinthians are conjoined by the author with the contemporary church at worship. He then describes what we may do as contemporary Protestants to recapture something of the New Testament fervor. The findings are: 1) 1 Corinthians is a unity, built around the central theme of the church's need to express its joy in the gospel as it upbuilds itself in love; 2) The great hymns to love (13) and resurrection (15) are not extraneous additions, but central expressions of that underlying message; 3) If we are to rediscover this, it is clear that we must build on that same foundation, to wait for and encourage each other, to make room for great difference of taste and doctrine, and to discover our unity in the resurrection. Decency and order may be the necessary machinery for carrying out the task, but our business is joy, and the rubric is love."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717886879596544,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:25:25.494Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:23:45Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:48:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e49c1735-8f92-48c2-be90-3032e10f4e03","accessControl_ssim":["6c21477f-62ed-4f70-b6b4-dc5d92c1a58d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Worship: key to renewal"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:23:44Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:40:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["68a44c36-3e09-4f2b-8071-1d0c908c47e5"],"hasLease_ssim":["8449df60-9e04-4299-95ec-72ba4f3ad327"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Keith Watkins"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald W Liechty"],"publisher_tesim":["Christian Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Church renewal","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["'Worship: Key to Renewal' develops the thesis that worship is the central act of the church, and that, therefore, worship is central to church renewal.
