Using input about their personal issues, the role of God, and faith development, from both current adolescents at Crossroad and the staff who work with them, the project identifies the most pressing issues for these young people.  The discussion series addresses the concerns with residents who chose to attend.  The effectiveness of the project is measured by pre- and post-interviews with participating adolescents; by an ongoing diary of conversations; and by feedback from the residents and staff at Crossroad. The research method included randomized and nonrandomized samples utilizing two control groups and three experimental groups.  Five testing instruments were used.  The project director employed a sermon series from I Corinthians, an intergenerational discipleship course, a young adult course on senior adulthood, and an intergenerational activity council during the implementation of the project.  Each group was observed and tested to determine if intergenerational koinonia had been achieved. A curriculum was designed that consisted of eleven discipleship training sessions.  These discipleship training sessions took place weekly.  To determine the effectiveness of the program, the experimental research method was used. It was based on an approach to confirmation as a process of identity formation. The project concluded with a 'mission worship' led by the youth in which samulnori and other aspects of Korean culture were introduced into the confirmation service. Four parent education sessions are developed with five practical home Bible study lessons for experiment.  The pastoral role models applied are the caring shepherd, guide shepherd, mediator, and vision giver. The teaching methods used are Groome's shared praxis approach and Westerhoff's enculturation. Research includes brief historical overviews of: catechistical methodology from Mesopotamia to present, printed catechisms and educational theory from the sixteenth century, early adolescent learning and memorization theory.  Market research indicated no availability of curricula containing all six important educational elements: question, answer, supporting Scripture verse, Scripture reference, verbal explanation and/or illustration, visual illustration. Most confirmation experiences involve youth in early adolescence.  Yet studies indicate these same youth often 'drop out' of the church 3-5 years later.  Why?  This dissertation is an attempt to answer this question and seek an educational approach to help a confirmation experience be more effective.  The approach used is one developed by Christian educator Thomas Groome and is known as 'shared Christian praxis.'
