Volume 1 is a narrative description of the project, volume 2 the curriculum.  A high school curriculum was developed using Groome's method of shared Christian praxis to pass on the spirituality of the Order of Visitation. The curriculum was field-tested by two Visitation schools and deemed successful. Research was conducted through a five-year observation of a family recovery program in San Diego, California, and was substantiated by several current recovery models.  The subject recovery program, PARTS (Parents and Adolescents Recovering Together Successfully), is self-managed by families with addicted children. The class met through an entire academic year, once every two weeks, to learn, interact, and receive training on how to be the most effective residence hall assistant.  The upper class students who participated in the program received three hours of general studies credit. A microcomputer simulation on hunger was prepared and tested in junion high church school classes. Half the classes used a computerized simulation, half a similar noncomputer simulation.  Students and teachers evaluated the simulations.  Both groups enjoyed and appreciated the simulations.  Students were challenged to think about hunger issues.  Teachers found the computerized simulation easy to use and were willing to do other simulations. This educational model explores the phenomenon of conflict with these youth.  It has participants practice conflict resolution skills which relate primarily to personal lifestyles and interpersonal relationships.  The project is informed by a biblical-theological-ethical understanding of conflict which has as its foundation the theology of Reinhold Niebuhr.  It also takes into account human developmental psychology in the forms put forward by James Fowler, Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlberg. This project attempts to provide some of that training through advanced Sonlife program that builds upon the basic seminar and helps youth pastors develop additional skills in effective church-related youth work. The interview technique was adapted from a study done by William Perry and based on the faith development models of John Westerhoff and James Fowler. Those who were active in the church's youth program displayed a number of characteristics including: supportive parents, some type of emotional 'faith experience,' and a significant relationship with another adult for whom faith was important and meaningful.  Those interactions are more significant in some ways than the curriculum or program used.
