The author interviewed fifty people, women and men, laypeople and seminarians, using a two-hour Life Story interview she designed.  She then led a workshop and a retreat, and drew some working conclusions on significant variables in self-concept, sexuality, and spirituality. The five categories were: 1) vivid retelling of a Biblical passage (usually a narrative), 2) retelling/updating of a Biblical parable, 3) 'baptizing' a secular story, 4) a sermon centered upon a single image, and 5) an original story (written or extemporaneous).  Two sermons were preached in each category in worship services in Liberia, West Africa, where the author taught Bible and preaching courses.  The use of the fourth category is discouraged. The others are affirmed by careful analysis. Over one hundred fifty years of religious and social development in the Black Swamp area of Ohio was written as adult curriculum material.  This material was taught and evaluated for future use within the congregation.  The viability of the program is discussed from the viewpoint of both author and congregation. It reviews why and how amalgamation took place, and surfaces the need for an appraisal in response to new insights and perspectives.  In rural realignment, 'small is beautiful' and attitudinal and spiritual dimensions play an important part.  The report relates the work of the candidate with his Ministry Base Group and with people who experienced amalgamation: those whose churches were closed, those who were in the host churches, the ministers of closed churches, and the people who prevented their churches from closing.  Amalgamation was, for the most part, a negtive experience with a legacy of unresolved problems. Consideration was given to organizational theory and leadership styles.  The model involved a questionnaire for staff members and a workshop. He tested the hypothesis in a support group of nine members from a local church.  The author and support group developed a profile of behavior changes desired from devotions and designed and tested devotional models to effect the changes. The context is an urban ministry agency of the United Methodist Church working among the urban poor in charleston, west virginia. The most frequent model for 'mission' contact with the local church is interpretation, not prophecy.  The prevailing expectation for a missionary is that he or she interpret their work to the local church, not raise prophetic words concerning it.  My program found viable ways in which the biblical-theological understanding can be focused in local churches to use their resources.  It communicates understandings, awakens consciences, and prompts new directions whisle using the history and stories of local churches. The major research component consisted of a survey of  management attitudes and values in the area served by  King-Bay Chaplaincy.  The findings of the survey and the survey process itself influenced the strategy and development of the chaplaincy. The entire ministry of the chaplaincy is experimental in nature, as it is not based on a traditional model of ministry.  The Project Report is an account of the evolution of the new ministry, based on a problem solving approach which utilizes the research data from the survey in its planning process.
