The author interviewed fifty people, women and men, laypeople and seminarians, using a two-hour Life Story interview she designed. It was concluded that sexuality and spirituality are integrally related to one another, and to self-concept, and that the family and the Church can in specific ways more effectively nurture an open and responsible positive development and integration."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126954927194112,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:36:14.337Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:42:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f4ec2d2d-2c06-4cce-a578-5d27762ce0f6","accessControl_ssim":["418a28b6-fbc9-48d1-abae-3f73ebc692ec"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Story as a medium of preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:07:33Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cbb25660-f3c3-4cb7-80ae-72d0fa6720e5"],"hasLease_ssim":["10a6a78d-0371-499f-a3f7-93c6feb18f8d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Virgil P Howard"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"location_tesim":["Liberia"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David Ellsworth Upp"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Religion","Sermons","Gbarnga School of Theology (Liberia)","Kpelle (African people)","Narrative preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project's purpose was to evaluate various categories of story sermons as to their effectiveness. Two sermons were preached in each category in worship services in Liberia, West Africa, where the author taught Bible and preaching courses. The use of the fourth category is discouraged. The others are affirmed by careful analysis. It reviews why and how amalgamation took place, and surfaces the need for an appraisal in response to new insights and perspectives. In rural realignment, 'small is beautiful' and attitudinal and spiritual dimensions play an important part. The report relates the work of the candidate with his Ministry Base Group and with people who experienced amalgamation: those whose churches were closed, those who were in the host churches, the ministers of closed churches, and the people who prevented their churches from closing. Amalgamation was, for the most part, a negtive experience with a legacy of unresolved problems. The resolution of these problems offers the basis for a challenge in ministry in the 1980's."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129488426270720,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:16:30.470Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:54:48Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"54a6803e-d8ae-4dbd-8e90-862c4c64aa51","accessControl_ssim":["ee2837c2-2922-4a14-b5a4-0147c399397d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Working as a team: a style of management for the First United Methodist Church of Wichita, Kansas"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:36:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0452a3aa-0bff-4454-a91d-7afbe82b2476"],"hasLease_ssim":["113212e0-e75b-46bd-88b1-1cde6c33244d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["C William Bryan"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jerold Wesley Vogt"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["United Methodist Church--Clergy","Interpersonal relations","Church group work","Church management","First United Methodist Church (Wichita, Kan)","Leadership--Religious aspects"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project centered on factors supporting a multi-staff ministry. The program demonstrated a positive correlation between praying for others and increased compassion toward them, and discovered that primary group reference is probably a more significant behavior-determining factor than devotions."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128192047644672,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:55:54.147Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:01:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"69727087-8542-4d1a-879f-a7d02181294e","accessControl_ssim":["01678b09-b254-4d5d-831b-a073c1e7bfbd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A prophetic word for local churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:13:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["97b38e26-8dd7-45af-8c42-9a2b7aa134c9"],"hasLease_ssim":["23b30462-0f4a-47bd-8317-fbf39ca28e8d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald Rogers"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Julian G Sulgit"],"keyword_tesim":["Prophetic office"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["City missions","Congregations","Methodist Church","Poor and the church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this program is to discover and shape a prophetic word among local churches. The context is an urban ministry agency of the United Methodist Church working among the urban poor in charleston, west virginia. The most frequent model for 'mission' contact with the local church is interpretation, not prophecy. The prevailing expectation for a missionary is that he or she interpret their work to the local church, not raise prophetic words concerning it. My program found viable ways in which the biblical-theological understanding can be focused in local churches to use their resources. It communicates understandings, awakens consciences, and prompts new directions whisle using the history and stories of local churches. It seeks prophetic faithfulness and humility but tries to avoid prophetic arrogance and judgment by remaining in tune with the biblical prophets but not simply to seek a prophetic way by which the local church may change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128533716697088,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:01:19.988Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:12:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a3ff7d2d-7e88-40f0-a52e-466433163ec6","accessControl_ssim":["bba4ac06-f487-4769-b8e7-1d6b018dee4d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The sounding board: a model for pastoral supervision in the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:16:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:54:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f4afd01f-66de-4b61-b8ec-90604f71d603"],"hasLease_ssim":["e7ed1410-56a7-411a-821d-d23db1ef2862"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Edwin Burtner"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Lowell W Scheufler"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral psychology--Study and teaching","Laity","Hebrew language--Terms--Ḥesed","Leadership--Religious aspects","Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The objective in the project was to help laity in a local church define their mission, given their situation, and to equip them for leadership. The major research component consisted of a survey of management attitudes and values in the area served by King-Bay Chaplaincy. The findings of the survey and the survey process itself influenced the strategy and development of the chaplaincy. The entire ministry of the chaplaincy is experimental in nature, as it is not based on a traditional model of ministry. The Project Report is an account of the evolution of the new ministry, based on a problem solving approach which utilizes the research data from the survey in its planning process. As a result of the research project, a Value Systems Analysis process was developed as a possible tool for a management value consulting ministry in the future."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721020731424768,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:15:14.168Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":120,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
