Preaching is defined as the proclamation of the Word of God through lecturing.  Historically, within the author's Methodist tradition, preaching has been a lecture--totally void of narrative, illustrations or even questions.  Within recent years a variety of teaching methods have been incorporated into preaching delivery but the use of these methods has seldom been questioned or even tested. Biblically and sociologically, the male role is distinguished from the female role.  That distinction involves primary leadership responsibility.  In this project it was proposed to develop a Christian male's self-identity by developing his leadership potential through increasing his awareness of leadership responsibility, improving essential biblical qualities of leadership, and advancing understanding of leadership style or personality.  A group of twelve male subjects were led in twelve group and three individual sessions. This representative group of Christians consisted of volunteers who were compared to a control group from the rest of the congregation.  An educational measurement tool to evaluate the results preceded and followed the course.  The purpose of the project was considered to be fulfilled if statistical improvement in self-esteem of an average of ten percent for the group as a whole was obtained. The author intervened with Transactional Analysis to identify factors that inhibited or facilitated the flow of energy.  Five hypotheses dealt with: 1) energizing ego states, 2) redirecting energy, 3) script decisions, 4) contracts, and 5) stroking.  In simulated situation and regular council meetings, data were gathered and redirecting energy considered.  Support was found that appropriately energized ego states facilitated decision-making, whereas inappropriately energized ego states inhibited decision-making. Compatibility is established in the first session of a five-session program by using William Schutz's FIRO-B inventory, family systems data, and the couple's courtship data.  During the fifth session, the couple retake the FIRO-B and again respond to a taped marital conflict.  The retest results show evidence of growth. Results from the program demonstrate that four of the five couples tested show an increase in negotiation learning and compatibility. The practicum's hypothesis is that when laywomen are introduced to their history through stories of significant laywomen and are provided occasions for personal reflection in the light of these stories, the experience will be empowering.  Women's contemporary situation is described and history is surveyed to substantiate the need for empowerment. The first group designed and implemented a one-day voter registration drive in South Oak Cliff, registering 55 persons in Dallas County. The paper notes how the issues of interpretation often recur, although the cultural context, and even the conception of the authority and inspiration of scripture may change.  One such issue is the value given to the historical context of the original writing or speaking of a given text.  The paper provides an overview of recurring issues in the history of interpretation and methods that various techniques of interpretation answer them.
