Investigating alcoholism-complicated marriages and a control group of non-alcholic couples revealed that non-drinking marriages can experience superior marital satisfaction.  Two factors contributed to this satisfaction: each marriage partner took responsibility for his or her own growth and change and both mates shared a common spiritual life. By using a semantic differential technique, responses to both metaphorical and propositional language were measured. The function of metaphor is examined in regard to clarity, emotion, beauty, imagination, detail, meaning and appeal. Both the statistical significance and practical significance of this are discussed.  The relationship of analogous language to cerebral specialization and logical positivism is noted. Foundation studies covered the Korean church school context and the psychological, theological, and biblical backgrounds of story. The goal of the study was to integrate insights from various disciplines into a format which could focus on three primary areas of cult abuse ministry: preventive ministry, pastoral ministry, and rehabiliation ministry. Thus this thesis-project took the form of a creative study for the purposes of building and suggesting models. Christianity in Africa cannot be understood apart from the historical and continuing influence of African traditional religion which permeates African life.  As a means of interpreting the African religious experience to American congregations through the interaction of research, lecture and dialogue, a workshop was included and explained. This study assesses personal and professional needs of ministers in the Christian Church and critically examines and analyzes existing clergy support systems at local, regional and denominational levels. Methodology includes research of literature in the field, survey of methods of other denominations in assessing clergy needs; research and reflection upon clergy support systems within the Christian Church (Disciples).  From a dozen clergy support systems within the church, the author determined that the three most effective are: peer/colleague support groups, local congregations' pastoral relations committees, and the church's pension fund.
