The student worked with an eight member lay committee over a period of five months studying such terminology as prophetic, affirmation, confrontation, and hermeneutic; studying the scriptural texts the student had chosen upon which to base his sermons; preaching four sermons in his local church; and meeting with the lay committee following the delivery of each sermon for response/feedback. The student concluded that preaching, the intent of which is Christian proclamation, is Bible centered. The student also concluded that all preaching should include both dimensions of 'the prophetic element in preaching,' which are affirmation and confrontation. New vision is the possible result of the prophetic element in preaching and would signify changed personhood in the name of Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126686223302656,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:31:58.081Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:21:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:34:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"55cc4d7f-487b-486e-92cc-452c4fa0485c","accessControl_ssim":["b8d8192c-74cb-473d-b6b5-a266c5e74829"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Church education and values clarification"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:21:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:38:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8cd62690-737b-4d80-8c6c-c5b9527453b1"],"hasLease_ssim":["f83b5b42-868c-461a-8376-18eba1f34ff0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["L Howard Grimes"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["David Lee Curtis"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Christian education--Philosophy","Values clarification","Christian ethics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project examines possible theological relationships between values clarification (VC) principles and contemporary church education efforts. Incorporation of insights from process metaphysics, moral/faith development studies and a continuing concern for Christian norms are discussed as appropriate and essential components in a values-centered theology.
